By no fault of his own or the Ferrari team, Kimi Raikkonen could lose his recently claimed World Championship. Apparently, three cars are being investigated by the FIA for rule infractions, all of which placed between Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton. If they are disqualified, Hamilton will win the World Championship.
According to Autosport, the FIA is investigating the cars of Williams driver Nico Rosberg and BMW drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, who finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. The leading news source claims the Stewards are concerned with the temperatures of fuel samples from the three vehicles, which caused them to fail post-race inspection.
If all three of these cars, or even just two, are disqualified from the race, Lewis Hamilton would win the 2007 World Championship. Even if the drivers are not excluded from the race, a time penalty could lead Hamilton to win the Title.
The Tifosi immediately reacted angrily to the report, believing the FIA are attempting to steal away the Championship away from Räikkönen and Ferrari. It must be noted though that the race Stewards would react this way, regardless of what the implications may be.
Hopefully for Ferrari this will not effect the World Championship, but if it does, it will be by no fault of Ferrari or Räikkönen.
More to follow soon. Be sure to check back with Ferrari 1 as the story develops.
