Yappy First to Resign

Prop John Yapp has become the first Cardiff Blues star to sign an extension on his contract. The 24-year old has been ever present for both club and then region for the last 5 years, and his new deal will ensure he remains as he enters the prime of his career.

Dai Young today confirmed that Yappy has renewed his contract until 2010, ensuring he's at the Arms Park (and Stade De Ridsdale) for the remainder of this year and then two after.

It is the time of year where players start renegotiating and more names are expected to follow. But with The Ospreys in particular prowling the Welsh regions with their millions, Dai and Peter Thomas will have to act quickly in order to secure all their current squad.

But it's not just about the current group of players, it's also about scouting the playing field for new talent. Ceri Sweeney is one of the names that is being linked with the region. The fly half held talks with The Blues last season, but evidently resigned with the Dragons after Nick Robinson decided to stay at the Arms Park.

But now he's holding talks again over a potential move. He's unhappy at the Dragons, who are also unhappy with him. Current rumour state that the only offer he has to stay in Wales so far is with the Blues, though he has two offers from France.
