Friday’s free practice was a special occasion for Luca Baldisserri who took over the role of Ross Brawn who has been laid low due to a bad back. Luca who is normally Michael Schumacher’s race engineer stepped into the shoes of Brawn with immense pride. It was business as usual though for a Friday as the team concentrated on analysing the tyre compounds available this weekend.

Data has been travelling to Maranello and to Ross Brawn and the team will now have to make the decision on what tyres to use, although the drivers may decide on differing compounds as they did in Spa.

“We got on with the usual Friday programme today,” said Baldisserri. “Everything was fine on Michael’s car and we got through our entire programme. We also did a comparison test between the two types of tyre at our disposal. They are both very similar in performance terms, which means we have to study the data very carefully in order to make the right choice. However, we had a small problem with the braking system on Rubens’ car in the first hour of practice. Unfortunately, this meant he only completed two laps in the first part of the session. Then, in the second part we ran a similar programme with him, to the one we did with Michael."
