Flanagan Gets Nod
It's been the biggest topic of debate on the forum, since the future of Dai Young following the defeat to Leeds in the same competition 3 years ago, Robinson or Flanagan.
While 99% of fans would have picked a fit Robinson over the youngster every time, the lack of game time has really divided opinion. But it's Young's opinion that counts, and following a good performance against Edinburgh last weekend (which now seems months ago), Young has opted for the form man.
However, there's more interesting news regarding the great fly half debate, with ‘Kaplan' telling the message board yesterday, that Gloucester's Kiwi stand off, Willie Walker, is in talks with the Blues.
Nearly 30, Walker has featured rarely for the Cherry and Whites as he's down the Kingsholm pecking order, but his 2-year contract expires this summer, and there can be no doubt that the former Ortago and Rugby Club Japan man has experience, ironically something Flanagan is lacking. While he would be a better signing than Sweeney, you've really got to question Peter Thomas' evaluation of ‘the best players in the world'.
But back to matters in hand, and Cardiff face the biggest and most difficult match of their history. It will be the first meeting of the two teams, and is of course, the same opponent that beat Cardiff RFC in the inaugural competition.
For the 1,000 there, it promises to be a memorial experience, while realistically, most fans will be happy as long as the Blues don't get embarrassed. It can happen though, there's no doubt about that. This side have knocked out the pre-tournament favourites, and almost beat them in their own patch, again ironically, without a fly half at all!
All it takes is one decision to go your way; one bounce in your favour or one kick that just sneaks over. Games are won and lost in the blink of an eye, and maybe, just maybe, we could see something very, very special.
