Hamilton:
Massa To
Blame For Crash

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton believes Felipe Massa was to blame for the two coming together in Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at Mount Fuji. Massa hit Hamilton early on in the race, forcing Hamilton to spin and subsequently fall to the back of the field. This is what Hamilton had to say:

"I took the corner normally and Felipe came back very aggressively and hit me. I think that was pretty much as deliberate as can be."

Massa however, believe the situation was simply a racing incident and no one was at fault for the collision:

"In my opinion it was a racing incident and we both paid a penalty. For me, he braked too late and pushed me out of the track. I couldn't stop the car as I was in the gravel and I was in the gravel because he pushed me."

From the perspective of a Ferrari fan, I was no doubt pleased to see Hamilton spin out of the race. Though as a fan of racing, I was less than pleased. I am likely to side with Lewis on this event, as I believe Felipe's actions were indeed intentional.

Hamilton did indeed push Massa wide, but not so wide as to necessitate Felipe's running onto the grass. Judging from the video, Massa in fact turned onto the grass, so as to not lose the position which Hamilton had already taken. Massa may believe he was forced, but he clearly could have avoided running right across the curb and into the side of Lewis. In the end, it was an avoidable accident and he should have been and was penalised for so.
