Alonso to Ferrari....The Rumors Continue
By Ernesto Nigro
April 23 2009
Fernando Alonso will head to Ferrari at the end of 2009 says Ex-Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger.

Berger (former Toro Rosso co-owner) has said that he "negotiated intensively" with the 27-year-old Spaniard last year, when he needed to replace Sebastian Vettel, who was heading to the sister Red Bull Racing Team.

He was quoted as saying "Now I can say it: he was interested, but made it clearly understood that he saw 2009 only as a transitional year, because he already knew what he would be doing in 2010," during an interview with Germany's Sport Bild.

"Surely it's Ferrari"

These rumors have been swirling round for years it seems, and simply will not go away.  Is there any substance to them?

I wonder, will Alonso to Ferrari mean the end of Massa and/or Kimi at Ferrari?

Is it clear to everyone after what happened at McLaren with Alonso and Lewis that the same scenario could play out at Ferrari?

If Kimi decides to retire or does not have his contract renewed, and Alonso replaces him, will Alonso be able to deal with Massa as a teammate?  There is some bad blood there already.  Will Ferrari throw more or better resources at Alonso?  What happens to Massa's career?

If Massa becomes the sacrificial lamb leaving Alonso and Kimi as teammates and the same happens, will the two get along?  Can either scenario be good for Ferrari, or will it turn into a classic Prost Vs Senna type rivalry?

What is clear, is that there are many pros and cons to this scenario.  Ferrari must do something to ensure its scarlet racers have competitive drivers to pilot them.  They also need a driver that can help develop their challenger, and Alonso may have the skills needed to fill both roles.
