Kimi on the Podium
Ferrari find themselves on the comeback trail. This past Sunday in Monte Carlo, Kimi secures Ferrari's first podium of the season with Massa right behind him in fourth.Monaco was the scene for Ferrari's latest warning signal to the rest of the F1 field.
In Spain just two short weeks ago, the improvements made to the Scuderia's F60 proved to be a substantial step up in performance although the results were not indicative of it's improvements. This past weekend however, both Kimi and Felipe showed the rest of the field that Ferrari is on the right track. While the championship seems to be a foregone conclusion with Button the winner of 5 of the last 6 races and Brawn again finishing one-two, it is clear that Ferrari are now closing in on RedBull and Brawn. Now it may just be a matter of time until they will be overtaking Red Bull as Brawn GP's main challenger.
Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa brought home 11 points, the Scuderia's best single-race haul after six races.
"Maybe we had the car to win the race if we start on pole position," Massa "We still need a couple of races to be sure we are the second strongest team."
Massa said that if the team can improve downforce for better tire grip in time for the Turkish GP, the Brazilian driver may just manage to win his fourth consecutive race at Istanbul. Felipe established himself as the fastest man on track in Monaco, by notching the race's fastest lap. While Kimi was relieved to have finished the race in third, he also mentioned in an interview, that he cannot be happy with the result. He expects to be challenging for race victories before the end of the season.
"What we are doing is going in the right direction," team principal Stefano Domenicali said. "At least now we can see a little bit closer the cars that were in front of us. It's a good sign, for sure we have closed the gap."
The TIFOSI await the ING Turkish GP to see where Ferrari sit in the pecking order on a more aero demanding circuit. More updates are planned for Turkey to improve downforce levels. It is uncertain if Ferrari will have the package to compete for race victory in the next round, however, one thing is certain...Ferrari have proven that they are still a force in Formula One.
