FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
By Ernesto Nigro
July 8 2009
The FIA and FOTA fail to compromise...As a result FOTA walked out of a meeting with the FIA today in Germany. FOTA's statement below;
The full FOTA statement reads:

'Representatives of all FOTA teams attended a meeting of the Sporting Working Group at the Nürburgring today.

During the course of this meeting, the team managers were informed by Mr Charlie Whiting of the FIA that, contrary to previous agreements, the eight FOTA teams are not currently entered into the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship and have no voting rights in relation to the technical and sporting regulations thereof.

It will be remembered that all eight active FOTA members were included on the "accepted" entry list as endorsed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) and communicated by FIA press statement on June 24.

In light of these claims, the FOTA representatives requested a postponement of today's meetings. This was rejected on the grounds that no new Concorde Agreement would be permitted before a unanimous approval of the 2010 regulations was achieved.

However, it is clear to the FOTA teams that the basis of the 2010 technical and sporting regulations was already established in Paris.

As endorsed by the WMSC and clearly stated in the FIA press statement of 24 June "the rules for 2010 onwards will be the 2009 regulations as well as further regulations agreed prior to 29 April 2009". At no point in the Paris discussions was any requirement for unanimous agreement on regulations change expressed. To subsequently go against the will of the WMSC and the detail of the Paris agreement puts the future of Formula 1 in jeopardy.

As a result of these statements, the FOTA representatives at the subsequent Technical Working Group were not able to exercise their rights and therefore had no option other than to terminate their participation.

The FOTA members undertook the Paris agreement and the subsequent discussions in good faith and with a desire to engage with all new and existing teams on the future of Formula One.'

The more things change, the more they remain the same.Seems the June 24th 'deal' isn't one really.

I'm fed up with this Bull Sh*t. I'm starting to think the "agreement" they reached (FIA-FOTA) is really a manouvre from Mosley to push time forward and leave the teams without time to organize a breakup series, thus imposing his sick rules. I think Mosley will go for re-election, but as this is in october, this controversial halo will remain until then. Mosley's dark side is overshadowing F1.

I just hope if they go ahead with a breakaway, that they fricken stick to it this time!

Something's gotta give, either Max is ousted NOW, and whomever takes over patches things up - OR - the FOTA breakaway becomes a hard reality with NO turning back OR there is no F1 or Breakaway Series next year and in 2011 - a new stronger, simplified F1 emerges with consistent and fair governance.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
I believe I told you so. There were never any agreements or regulations that had been put in writing and signed by the parties. Being that at least one of those parties is a snake named Max, everybody should have expected this.

BTW, of course Max will now have to stand for reelection, he has created the degree of turmoil that he himself has said demands it.

FOTA MUST BREAKAWAY OR BOYCOTT, there are no other choices.

Perhaps a boycott and a protracted legal action enjoining the FIA and FOM from staging F1 races is the best way to rest control from the two old fools without starting dueling series.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
I see Max Mosley still causing trouble for the sport of Formula One! Bernie and Max are sick old men that love the chaos of it all and are only thinking of power, venettas and selfish pride! This is more typical of Max Mosley's doing then Bernie! But obviously both are fixated on hitler and naz* thinking! This very sad that two individuals can be so harmful and destructive to the sport of Formula One!

This is VERY, VERY, VERY bad news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forza Ferrari!!!!!!!!!!!

i thought it was called a columbian tie...(not to confuse with mexican tie which involves an acoustic guitar)

seriously though, as soon as fota signed the agreement, i was started wondering if it was worth the paper it was written on, given max's and bernies track record.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
Since the FIA says that the FOTA teams are not entered in F1 for 2010, can they tell us who is entered?

Since the FOTA teams have in effect been locked out by the FIA, they cannot be sued by the FIA or FOM for witholding their participation.

It really would be best for the FOTA teams to sit out 2010 or until Max and the entire FIA management are replaced. Mercedes, Renault, Toyota, BMW and Ferrari should refuse to sell engines to F1 teams. Let Max see if he can make a series that anyone will watch, or that can buy enough engines to race.

Since the FIA's actions now threaten the commercial value of the series, Bernie will have to force Max to resign and insist that the FIA make peace with FOTA, or Bernie will loose everything he has.

I, for one, am perfectly well prepared to do without F1 for a year in order to save it.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
I want a Break away series:

- we get to see probably 18 races F1 + 15 races Breakaway...33 races in one year in the same type of racing...I wouldn't mind that at all!!!!!!

- F1 vs Breakaway....one will succeed over the other and eventually absorb the other...so nothing to lose as a fan

- This would get rid of Mosley if it didn't go "F1's" way....

- Breakaway series will allow F1 to develop the way Max and Bernie want, unhindered and they will be soley responsible for the outcome. Similarly, FOTA will be responsible for their own success or failure. Nobody gets to play the blame game. I like that sort of accountability.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
How about this for an even better rumour which may or may not have any real backing. RBS is considering an immanent recall on the CVC loans so that they take control of the commercial rights to F1 which will then be sold on to the teams. It having been decided that neither Fiat Toyota Renault BMW nor Mercedes feel that someone who respects Hitler should no longer be involved in the sport.

In exchange Williams and Force India will rejoin FOTA and Max is left high and dry with the new team the chief stewards company just happen to do some work for on a free of charge basis and two other companies who agreed to run Cosworth engines with no rev limit -which even someone with the most rudimentary understanding of FIA rule will know is not allowed within the FIA statute.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
Very difficult to make that work amid all the current turmoil.
We will see this end and rather abruptly IMO.
Max will be axed by no other than Bernie, Some form of caps will be agreed upon to appease the entry of new teams, and the rules will be set in short order so the 2010 season will not be a repeat of this years dogs breakfast of a season.
What gives me this belief of optimism ?

Fatigue.

The continued waste of time is losing revenue.

All those in power are at wits end, fed up, and wish to move forward to get this ordeal behind them.

Not bigger than Bernie's. Plus I wouldn't rule out BE's lawyer's and their balls.
True the FOTA needs a nut crusher at the helm, but I still think it will be some creative back door moves by BE that will neuter spanky.

Thanks for the read. That approach may work but it aides a serious division of the F1 we know. I'm afraid of the unknown
results of the division we don't know.
Who can see the results if they split ? Unity has to be resolved ASAP IMHO.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
My position on this is really evolving. I think it may be too late for FOTA to pull together a successful breakaway series, especially since they have shown that they were eager to get back in the FIA family. But, since the FIA has essentially kicked FOTA out of F1, I think they should boycott the series, including racing and providing new teams with engines. In addition to that, the European auto manufacturers who voiced their displeasure with the FIA should refrain from sending factory teams to FIA sanctioned events. Perhaps even beginning with this weekends German GP and going forward until they have broken Max and his cronies. Without an entirely new cast of characters at the FIA.

If FOTA don't get tough after this@#$%&it will never end.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
Well I was totally winging it when I suggested CVC were up for doing a deal with the teams but it turns our that FOTA has been talking directly to CVC about a direct agreement between the parties. The sponsors (which include the CVC backer RBS) are it seems also having an input.

Normally by this time Max and Bernie would have everyone tied up in knots. For once it appears that the teams are staying one step ahead.

The fat lady is still singing but it seems to be getting closer to the end.

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
Does this mean the rat would stab the snake in the back? Could CVC run the F1 championship with FOTA in place of the FIA? After all CVC of FOM or Bernie owns the term "F1".

How sweet would that be?

Re: FOTA Walk Out of FIA Meeting: FOTA Statement
The immediate problem is that rules for 2010, both soprting and technical, need to be written NOW. Unfortunately Max and his people are still in charge and the input is the FOTA teams is not being heard. Nor, according to Whiting, are the FOTA teams even entered for 2010.

Was this most recent spat, instigated by Max, just a parting shot, or will he continue to hold to this line until he is out of office? The rules can't wait until October to be accepted!

Gents and ladies,

Is it just me or has Formula 1 lost it's lustre?

With all the cr*p going on, I feel that truly F1 is no longer the F1 of competition and the absolute pinnacle of motorsport.

We need a completely new series. I sincerely hope that FOTA create their own racing series... or at the very least, the whole management structure of the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone be removed...

Sorry, just venting... all the same I do wish it happens.

Cheers,
Saint

I would love a FOTA breakaway series, but does that mean there will be no USGPE team as they are already slated to race in F1 and are not one of the 8 teams in FOTA? That would be awful.

Bernie supposed to come up with new concorde agreement by Wednesday. Seems he's feeling the heat. CVC bosses say they'll persevere with Bernie even after they told him they didn't like his n@$1 comments.

Bernie now knows his @$$ is on the line so looks like he'll push Max out. As for Max, he says he never walks away from a fight. Seems like the fight is being taken out of his hands............"F1 Free at last" ?
