Who is Sebastien Buemi?

Just a little over a month away from Buemi’s debut race in Formula One, we take a look back at Buemi’s racing CV.

Like all aspiring race drivers, Buemi started in karts, where in 2004 he raced in the German Formula BMW series, where he finished the championship in 3rd place. He stayed in the German Formula BMW series in 2005 where he finished the championship in 2nd place. 2005 also saw Buemi compete in one single race in the Spanish Formula Three series.

 

2006 saw Buemi compete in the Formula Three Euroseries where he finished the season in 11th place. He stayed in the Formula Three Euroseries in 2007 where he finished the championship in 2nd place.

 

2006 and 2007 also saw Buemi race in A1 Grand Prix driving for Team Switzerland, where he shared his drive with Neel Jani and Marcel Fassler. They finished the championship in 8th place. 2007 also saw Buemi compete in one race of the GP2 series at Monaco, where he qualified 4th and finished 7th. This result saw Buemi being signed by Arden International for the 2008 GP2 series.

 

Buemi competed in both the GP2 Asia Series as well as the main GP2 series. GP2 Asia Series saw Buemi finish the series in 2nd place, with 1 win; 5 podiums and 1 fastest lap, with a total of 37 points. In the main GP2 series, Buemi finished the season in 6th place, with 50 points, which included 2 wins; 5 podiums and 1 fastest lap.

 

Sebastien Buemi’s first Formula One test was during the Jerez test in September 2007, where he drove the RB3, where he finished the test session third fastest. The 2008 Formula One season saw Buemi named Red Bull Racings third driver.

 

2009 sees Sebastien Buemi racing for Scuderia Toro Rosso.
