Vergne's Turn
By Andrew Cutler
February 11 2012
After watching Daniel Ricciardo put the STR7 through it's paces for two days, Jean-Eric Vergne finally got his chance to try out the new car. The young Frenchman put it through a program that mostly concerned dialing in the aero set-up.

Like Ricciardo before him, Jean-Eric had only positive things to say about the car's handling characteristics. By Friday he was feeling comnfortable enough in the STR7 to post the second-best time of the day behind that of Fernando Alonso's Ferarri.

Over the two days Vergne logged 159 laps, bringing STR's four day total to 317.

Chief Engineer Laurent Mekeis called the four day session a positive one for the team, and noted that; "We did a reasonable amount of laps and we did not have any major issues with the car. This meant we were able to start our work of getting to know everything about it and understand how to make it work as well as possible. In parallel to this, we were running Daniel and Jean-Eric for the first time since they were signed as our race drivers: they both did well, establishing their relationship with the team."
