The AT&T Williams team would conduct the first run with their 2009 contender the FW31, with test driver Nico Hulkenberg carrying out the driving duties. On a wet day Nico would have his first run without any problems, returning to the Williams pit. The morning session would see Nico complete only a handful of laps with the FW31, with Nico setting a time of 1m:57.502
