Singapore GP: Williams Martini woes continue in qualifying

Qualifying for the 2018 Singapore GP would see the Williams Martini team continue to struggle with neither driver making it past the opening period. Sergey Sirotkin would finish ahead of team-mate Lance Stroll but the pair would finish in 19th and 20th. Another extremely disappointing result for the Williams team as their poor 2018 season continues. As for their prospects in the race it is going to require a large measure of luck given the significant performance dsiadvantage both Williams drivers will have to contend with.

 Williams Martini Singapore GP Qualifying

Team Summary:
With the start of the opening 18 minute period of qualifying in Singapore would see the hypersoft tyre been the tyre of choice. Grosjean would set a 1m:39.946 to go quickest with Magnussen moving ahead. Leclerc would go quickest with a 1m:39.764 but Raikkonen would move well ahead with a 1m:38.534. Ocon and Perez were now second and third followed by Leclerc and Magnussen. Vettel was now in fourth and Hamilton now fifth. But the Red Bull drivers would set their times and it would be Ricciardo now fastest with a 1m:38.153 with Vettel now second. Raikkonen was now third and Verstappen fourth. Ocon and Perez were fifth and sixth. The Williams drivers were now 18th and 19th but Bottas had yet to set a competitive time. The two Mercedes cars were on the ultrasoft tyre for their first runs.

The Williams drivers were now in 19th and 20th. Bottas was now eighth and Hamilton tenth. With the end of the period the order was Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Verstappen, Perez, Ocon, Hulkenberg, Alonso and Sainz tenth. Both Williams drivers were out of qualifying and were over three seconds off the quickest time. Such a massively disappointing result for the Williams team.


Lance Stroll:
Lance would follow Sergey out also using the hypersoft tyre. Lance would set a 1m:41.334 to be well ahead of Sergey in 12th but he would drop to 18th. After a four lap run Lance would pit now 19th. Lance would return on a new set of hypersoft tyres. Lance would have a moment on his lap would would fail to improve dropping to 20th and out of qualifying.

Sergey Sirotkin:
Sergey would be first out in Q1 using the hypersoft tyre. Sergey would set a 1m:42.724 to currently be 12th. He would drop to 13th as his team-mate moved ahead. Sergey would drop well down the times to be 19th with a time of 1m:41.403. Sergey would also pit now in 20th. Sergey would also return on a new set of hypersoft tyres. Sergey would improve his first sector time and would finish with a 1m:41.263 to now be 19th and out of qualifying.
