Re: 2018 F1 Australian Build up Thread.

It's been discussed on the F1Technical forum that the new nose seen briefly in testing has a more V shape.

It's interesting that the new wing for this season has a new support for the cape, while last year's wing doesn't.

Yes, this support is new for Australia. Maybe they found that the new wing is throwing some turbulance on the cape and it was moving to much. This maybe made the cape not effective and they went with the old one for the majority of the tests.

Here are some test pisc of the new wing cape without support for reference:

Have you seen the cape design of new Mercedes? It has a hole in it that I wonder where that air will go and for what reason...comparing it to ourself, the whole cape looks to be a massive dish which imo can produce alot of front downforce.
I'm puzzled if that big surface is allowed to be there and if yes, why not all the teams are going that way.

On the other hand, I'm less excited than ever.

Kinda agree, used to love first GP of the season but since it went to Sky, just not the same watching the first race as highlights.

Would be good to see a three way fight, Vettel V Hamilton just doesn't have the same tension of past battles.

Well.. with all the fuss of not getting our softer compound tires up to temperature in cold testing conditions at Williams, it may turn out to be a different story come race season with little or much higher track temps.

Not putting so much energy into tires 'may' prove beneficial with general softer compounds used on all circuits. Hoping to see them last a little longer with our car.

But here's hoping the design targets got met for overall race conditions.

Hi,
I am reading that Kubica estimates the performance gap to the leaders at around 2s in Australia, says that it's extrapolated data but is fairly sure that actual performace lays within +- 0.2s of that 2s loss smiling smiley

Where is this quote? There is a lot of false kubica news.

Pre-weekend warnings from Claire that our pace is going to be awful?

I can't remember a more negative comment by our team boss ahead of season start...talking about Spanish package and where it puts us is somehow writting first few races off.

Hi,

It was published bu Cezary Gutowski on his official FB page - he is rather solid when it comes to Kubica news and one of closest to him among polish journalists so I dont think it could be a fake quote - it is in polish tho so i guess no point quoting a whole thing heresmiling smiley i just wrote the most significant infosmiling smiley

Can't read it as I've used all autosport views

Edit. Just read it elsewhere. She was actually saying the car won't be in the top 3 as per her expectations. Well that's just fine. Because none of us expected that anyway. I for one was thinking we'd be lucky to be the 5th fastest team before the winter testing.

Fact is. Who cares? In 24 hours we will know. And if she does believe the Spain update will put the car back on track, that means the car goes into the top 3?? Doubt it but its her words not mine.

The end of Claire´s reign is in sight, this season will be the nail in the coffin since I expect us to be second to last.

I actually take more seriously the comments from the team, as in this article that talk about the potential they have found in the car. When they've been able to switch it on the car has been fast. As confirmed by a friend in a rival team.

I'm fully prepared for a disappointing start to the season to see the team figure their @#$%& out over time and get this car working all the time. It's a brighter future than starting as the 4th fastest team with a recycled concept for a 5th year in a row and ending the season out of the points.

Change had to happen Now, and change doesn't always mean instant gains.

The sound of backmarkers. Money is more important than result, how to pay 600 staff???

I'm fully prepared for a disappointing.....yes me too since 2016. Next 3 years also the same.

I cant imagine the FW41 to be a dog. The car only needs understanding why it behaves like it does and after this has been done it will be in need of some fine tuning. Thats all.

Why not? This has been Williams performance for the some seasons.

How do you work that one out? Claire calls the shots at Williams. If the car is a complete disaster I see other heads rolling.
