Williams turn up with a very plain vanilla car here as everyone else appears to be adding tenths and getting their Barcelona packages to work.

Interviewed on Sky, Russell says 'it's a long term plan'. Hmmmmm.

Kvyat has a new engine and will start at the back.

Yes hard to understand how the comments from the drivers seem to keep pushing back the dates for any major updates to the FW42. Yes I know the season started off badly with various issues but I thought we were over those and could focus on developing the car in a significant way. Yes they have been doing small things around the edges but how long is it going to take to address the big issues.

The team has no money to develop the car. It's clear by now.

Yes there does seem to be an air of uncertainty as to when things are going to happen most likely driven by budgets.

Same as last year

Last year shouldn't have been money, Pappa Stroll would have paid up for any spec B car if we'd shown any likelihood of delivering it, we just didn't. Makes you wonder if they've done as much as they can and realised this heap of **** will never improve so have started fresh. Team need to start being more open.

McLaren going well here after a difficult Canada. Norris has been generally quicker than Gasly over the two sessions. Sainz spent quite some time in the garage but is also quick.

The McLaren v Renault battle will probably be the one to watch - maybe for the rest of the season.

Sky said something about Williams optimising the new suspension. Russell and Latifi quicker than Kubica . . . Russell by six tenths.

The whole Kubica situation is getting pathetic. Let the guy go already. Relieve him from his misery.

The problems with the previous car were thought to be failings with the tools . . . tunnel and CFD data. I did see a discussion on Autosport where going from a lower to a higher rake may have broken the models. Equally, the wider cars would have different requirements for rolling road and tunnel.

Williams has been advertising for wind tunnel technicians and methodologists.

I disagree that the kubica thing is pathetic. The car is pathetic. Its just simply that Russell is faster driver than kubica. Anybody who thought kubica would blow Russell away should by now be realising how good George is.. Let give George credit where credit is due.

I’m starting to agree. I mean, Kubica himself must be close to just putting his hands up and saying enough. He can’t be enjoying himself, and he’s really not doing his reputation any good.

Hang on.... are we saying Kubica shoud go because hes not performing or because we have given him a bad car? Again if its because hes not performing, you just aint giving George any credit...

He's paying 15million for that seat with Orlen. There's no way to see another driver in that seat until next season.

Hopefully Ocon will be available and join us to have a proper line-up so if the team can make a good midfield car, we can fight. With this state of Kubica, he's fortunate we're not competitive so even a 40sec gap in a race, doesn't show much in standings.

Russel is fairing better how?

RUS is consistently faster than KUB. There was this talk of the chassis and then I believe they swapped or KUB got George's chassis and nothing changes.

Simply put, KUB is sadly not delivering. The WIlliams drivers each have only one person to beat and that is their team mate. RUS is winning by a country mile.

I too can see OCO in our car next year alongside RUS. I don't think Merc will want to disturb the cosy situation they have at the top team just yet.

Even if Kubica does leave Williams I wonder where he would go. Other teams may have seen aspects of the whole situation and not been keen of seeing that in their own team.

I would still like to see Kubica get the opportunity of driving a more competitive car just to maybe answer some of the questions over his abilities behind the wheel. But when will we see that that's the $64000 question with no answer likely to be seen soon.

As for George Russell doing better well yes he is but I am still trying to understand how it is that Kubica can one day set times that are close to that of Russell's and then the next be miles away.

I don't accept the whole Russell's car is better theory and I have been assured by the team that the team, now that the manufacturing issues are resolved, gives both drivers the same equipment. But still anyone like to offer an opinion as to why there these big swings in his performance. Canada seemed to be case in point where come the race he had no pace at all compared to Russell.

Williams; Friday Team Notes

Dave Robson, Senior Race Engineer:
George was back in his race car for FP2 and was pleased with the set-up work that Nicholas had done during FP1. The wind and track temperature both picked-up during the afternoon making conditions more inconsistent. Both drivers enjoyed good long runs on the harder compounds. As always, we have a lot of data to look through to help us set the car up for tomorrow, but, overall, we have had a good, productive, and error-free day.

George Russell:
Today was as expected and I enjoyed it. Missing FP1 wasn't ideal but I know the track well, so I got into the rhythm pretty quickly. Circuit Paul Ricard has a nice flow to it and the car felt alright. Overall, I enjoyed the laps out there and the pace was what we expected. We must keep on improving the car balance to make the most out of the package this weekend.

Robert Kubica: It was a usual Friday, nothing stands out. There were no surprises, so it was okay. We did a lot of work and tested a few data gathering items for aerodynamic purposes. The track was not bad, FP2 it was rubbering in, so the grip increased, and it was quite good fun to drive.

Nicholas Latifi:
It was good to have another FP1 session so close to my drive in Canada. I still had the rhythm of a Formula One car and I feel more comfortable. However, this morning the track conditions were tricky making it difficult to maintain consistent grip in the tyres from lap-to-lap. All in all, I was pleased with how today went, I kept it clean and got the car back to George in one piece.

Also when Latifi got Kubica's car in Canada, his times in FP1 were respectable.

There is nothing too insightful here, doesn't sound like they have given up entirely on 2019 but nothing firm at all.

One side note, the team gear actually looks really good, I wasn't sure when it first came out. If we had decent pace we'd probably be racking it in in merchandise sales as well.

All PR bullshit. She says we've been bringing lots of improvements every race... Sorry but what a load of crap.
