There may yet be a couple of tenths from the engine. Look at bottas' time compared to last test. If williams are running their engines detuned too then there may be a tenth or 2 on the straights.

Not dreams then if that may be the case that would put it spot on with my 1:16;5.
Plus the larger engine cover exits may have cost us a bit also.

HMM.

Cheers Andrew.
It is good to see updates from Williams again.

The team has done ok to bring a respectable race car this year, shame it is a little off the pace for my liking but it might challenge for 8th maybe?.

Another half a second of pace would of been great.

George appears to have a good qualie lap in him that will help a lot.

Merc need to get on top of these engine issues and then maybe we can close the back of our car up again?

If the team have some good room for improvement on this car then we may be able to fight for 7th later this season.

I do know that at least one of teams Merc can put there car in the 14s and i bet another 5 teams can put theres in the 15s here

We likely have the worst driver line up so to finish 8th or 7th you need a car that is at least 6th fastest. And that's without counting the on track operations.
Actually scratch that, to be fair we are preety good at pit stops & strategy afterall.

George may very well work miracles but the truth is that he is still unproven.

However the fact that the design & manufacturing team seem to have found their way again is a huge relief. Personally i won't mind if we finish last again as long as we are racing other cars. It will mean that we'll come out swinging in 2021.
Last year Williams was irrelevant to anything that was going on on Sundays.

This year we're back ;-)

The FIA is sending out a press release related to last year's Ferrari engine. That sounds like confirmation that something was wrong with the V6 turbo. Read it yourself:

"The FIA announces that after thorough technical investigation, it has completed its analysis of the operation of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One engine and has reached agreement with the team. The details of the agreement remain between the parties." And further: "The FIA and Ferrari have agreed a number of technical obligations that will improve the monitoring of all Formula 1 units for the upcoming championship season and the FIA for other regulatory tasks in Formula 1 as well as for its research activities on CO2 Emissions and synthetic fuels."

"So much is clear. Mercedes is the new season's favorite. Red Bull appears to be the first chaser. Optimists see the third placed team in the World Championship last year three tenths behind Mercedes, pessimists half a second. Ferrari has improved compared to the previous week and is third force. The car is a construction site: on both - on the chassis and on the engine side."

OK having looked at the overall figures that are available I stand by my thought that we will amass between 18 to 25 points and will not be last in the WCC, which is a massive improvement on last year.
Don't get upset at the Melbourne race if we come away with nothing as there is a lot more to be had from our first stable car in a longtime.

Well done Claire and the team

Regards Peter.

(Sm17) this is from motorsport-total.com:

Williams driver: progress there, but not enough

George Russell does not believe Williams can reach midfield in 2020. "Are we in a better position? I have my doubts. Realistically, we still have the slowest car."

However, his team had managed to reduce the gap to the competition. "That's all we could hope for in winter," said Russell. "In any case, I don't expect to see us in Melbourne in Q2 or Q3."

A 1.16:8 at this moment. Pleased Mike?

I am. That's solid progress. But people will always want more. It looks like they've latched on to the back of the pack and may even be slightly in the mix with a few cars. Anyone who expected more had very big dreams but it bodes well for the future of the team

I was amazed and happy as well. It seems like they've done everything well. Progress is the best word for this. Hopefully a Q2 soon.

According to motorsport-total com, we had a minor engine problem this afternoon. That's 5 engine problems in 6 days. Mercedes seems to have a weakness this year. It will try to resolve this in the next 2 weeks.
