Straight Pole

Felipe Massa
Qualifying: Pole - 1'21.421

Felipe Massa was ecstatic after taking his third straight pole position, when he set the fastest time in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix today. Massa was able to sneak in at the last second to steal pole from home crowd favorite Fernando Alonso. This will be the best possible position for Massa to go for his second win in a row. This is what Massa had to say:

"I really got a great lap! This third consecutive pole shows that our car is really competitive. My first run was not perfect, but on the second I managed to get things right without making the slightest mistake. Tomorrow's race will be very close and I hope that with a huge crowd like we saw today in the grandstands, the spectators will see a real spectacle. I hope to make a good start and make the most of pole. Along with the team we are working very well and I am very motivated and also confident about the race."

Massa may lose out on the run down to the first corner, as apparently Fernando Alonso is quite low on fuel. This would allow Fernando to slip in front of Felipe on the first lap and Massa may not be able to keep up with a heavier fuel load. It will be crucial for the Brazilian to keep Alonso behind into the first corner or the entire race may be lost.
