It was a complete disaster for Ferrari in the Canadian Grand Prix, with Kimi Raikkonen only finishing 5th and Felipe Massa being disqualified for disobeying safety measures. The Grand Prix was chaotic and therefore very exciting, especially for sensation Lewis Hamilton who took his maiden victory. Not so much for Robert Kubica who amazingly survived a 170mph shunt with only a broken leg.

It was a decent start for Massa, passing Raikkonen and slotting in behind Alonso (who had a terrible day). Kimi's start was most disappointing, falling behind Massa and Nico Rosberg. Massa would improve, passing Alonso after the Spaniard slid off the track on one of his many grassy excursions. Things settled down until Adrian Sutil slammed his Spyker into the wall. The car could not be removed without a safety car and the madness began.

Alonso and Rosberg pitted right away but would later be penalized as this was illegal. It was later revealed that they would have run out of fuel if they did not pit. Ferrari avoided the same penalty by pitting their drivers when the pit lane reopened. Unfortunately the cars needed to be stacked and Raikkonen was forced to wait behind Massa. This further hurt the Finn's race chances.

Just as the track went green again, Robert Kubica had a horrifying crash. The Pole swerved to avoid a Toyota but clipped its rear wheel. This sent the car straight into the barrier and then spinning and flipping into the air. Parts of the car were sent flying all over the track and the only the driver protection tub was left when the car finally came to a rest on its side. Kubica did not move for quite sometime and medics arrived on the scene immediately. It took quite sometime to remove Robert from the car and this brought on worries that this was more serious than just a crash. In a car from even a few seasons ago, Kubica would have been killed in this crash. Fortunately the Pole was not only alive, but conscience and communicative. Apparently his only injury was a broken leg, which has yet to be confirmed. A massive relief after such a terrifying accident.

Kimi Raikkonen was having a very difficult race, eventually being passed by Fernando Alonso, despite the Spaniard being sent far back in the field by a stop and go penalty. Kimi would retake the position when Alonso again went off the track. Raikkonen was then not for the duration of the race.

As unremarkable as Kimi's race was, Massa race was far worse. The Brazilian was likely to finish on the podium but he was black flagged and disqualified from the Grand Prix. It was revealed that during an earlier pit stop Felipe and Giancarlo Fisichella had exited the pit lane while the red light was on. There was confusion as to whether or not the light should have been on at that point. Regardless, it was on and the drivers ignoring it was against the sporting regulations. Massa was clearly disappointed but those are the rules and they must be obeyed.

There were many crashes throughout the race and several safety car deployments. The Grand Prix was by far the most exciting for years, with passes at every turn and cars going off the track everywhere.

The most exciting event though must have been when Takuma Sato in the Super Aguri out drove and passed reigning World Champion Fernando Alonso in the McLaren. It was extremely exciting and likely the move of the race.

It was a bit less exciting at the very front, with Lewis Hamilton in control of the entire Grand Prix. Starting from his first ever pole, Hamilton lead the entire race (except for during pit stops) and was never under threat from anyone. The young Briton avoided all of the incidents and carbon fibre littering the track, something most were unable to do. He made no mistakes on track and his fantastic restarts ensured he was untouchable throughout the race.

Hamilton won easily from BMW's Nick Heidfeld and Alexander Wurz in third. This was Lewis' first win in Formula 1, likely the first of many to come. Ron Dennis was extremely excited for Hamilton, a driver which he has groomed for Championship success since Lewis' days in karting. This was most notable when Dennis began to cry while he congratulated Hamilton on his maiden victory. This was something never seen in the world of Formula 1 but completely understandable as Lewis Hamilton is Dennis' biggest investment and almost like his son.

I know this article talk little of Ferrari's race, but I can not be sorry for that. Raikkonen and Massa drove unremarkable races and produced little excitement. Regardless of all the confusion and incidents in the race, it is clear that the F2007 is not up to the pace. Not just the pace of the McLaren mind you, as the BMW of Nick Heidfeld was clearly faster than both Ferrari's this weekend.

Ferrari is clearly in trouble and they will have to push hard to catch up. It is as simple as that.

More race information, team reactions and of course high resolution wallpapers are to come, so be sure to check back with Ferrari 1 soon.
