Rosberg's Japanese Grand Prix

“The end of the Far East double header and its been a good fortnight for me, the races have both gone well compared to what came before and I spent an interesting time in China before the race there.

RosbergThis week I've been in Tokyo, which is a great city, incredibly modern, more so than much of Europe. Like the city, the Suzuka circuit is fascinating. Tricky to learn but very enjoyable.

It’s a massive shame that Formula 1 will be loosing it for next year, it's such a cool layout. The general flow of it, the difficulty, it's a driver's circuit and I'll be sorry to see it go.

Over these two races we definitely showed our progress as a team. At Suzuka, for the first time in a while it was pretty easy to qualify in the top ten and the car felt strong. Unfortunately things went a little wrong in the final session and in the end I didn't manage to make the best of being in the top ten shoot out. Going into qualifying I didn't really have many expectations, as I mentioned it was a new track for me and we didn't really know how the car was going to perform, but it settled in really well and the tyres were great.

Unfortunately I had one of my most disappointing starts of the season, so far this year coming off the line has been one of my strengths and an area where the car has consistently performed. Technically though there was something up in Suzuka, which we are trying to identify at the moment.

The rest of the race performance was promising, I got caught up behind Rubens [Barrichello] for a while, who was driving with a damaged wing, but in reality I don't think it made a great deal of difference to my result

We suffered some issues with the tyres towards the end of the race, which slowed me down, but by then I couldn't have finished any higher than 10th so it wasn't disastrous. I just turned the revs down on the engine to conserve it for the next race in Brazil and made sure of the finish.

Considering the run of luck I've had recently it's nice to have two race finishes in a row under my belt. This is still my first season in F1, so to get as much race experience as possible is good.

The mood in the garage is good at the moment, everyone feels that we have definitely turned the corner and we are all looking forward to next year with the Toyota engine.

Even though we have a new engine and gear box for next year a lot of the improvements that we are making now can be carried over into 2007. There are always things that you can learn with the old car that you can then transfer onto the new one.

We are all very confident for next year, and eager to finish this year on a high in Brazil in two weeks' time.”
