In an interview after the
Australian Grand Prix Williams Patrick Head spoke to commentators from local
television station Channel 10, regarding a wide range of subjects.
Your
third new engine deal in as many years ... the Toyota ... are you happy with
it?
Yes it is a very good working relationship with Toyota ... there are some
areas where we cooperate but when the flag drops we are in competition....
Nico drove a brilliant race we were very happy with that. He was able to
show his ability and his attacking spirit as a driver which unfortunate as
our car was very unreliable last year and he wasn't able to show that that
often.
Delighted to getting a couple of points in your first race ...
"Well I never want to admit to getting too excited about been seventh
because obviously we want to do better than that. But we qualified poorly at
twelfth and fifteenth and it is very difficult to do anything but pick up
the crumbs from those grid positions so we have to work out how to be much
further up the grid ... I think we are able to race at the same sort of
level as the Renault but we need to closer at the start of the race so we
will work on that .
The finish was good, very
pleased with the finish. Bit disappointed by David's move on Alex.
Potentially it could have been quite dangerous, I think he came from far to
far back so I am sure that he will regret that but anyway luckily there was
no serious harm done.
Nico did the fifth fastest lap of the race. His problem was that he nearly
all of the race had a car a second in front of him, or less, and your
actually lap time was significantly damage so we was not able to run at the
pace he could have run at. But that's our problem in that we did not qualify
well."
What do you think you have to work on ....?
We have learnt quiet a bit about the characteristics of our car and what's
causing them in the testing and then here and some of those characteristics
are significantly better than last year and some of them we have not made as
much progress as we hoped. But we have a good basis ... the car is good and
we can develop and go forward with it and we are very keen to not to let
ourselves and the drivers down by been unreliable and we had no sign of
reliability problems here.
Development cycle ... where is Williams at at this stage?
Well I am sorry to be bit dull by not answering that but some times you
don't know how much potential there is ahead and I think we have quite a bit
of potential so I think maybe a little bit last year at the beginning of the
year we talked up our expectations a bit so we have decided to keep our
power dry now and we will see how well we can do as we push on it. |
