Revolutionary FW25

As the BMW WilliamsF1 team prepares at finishing the last three races of the 2002 season there has already been much discussion regarding the future for the team. Stories covering such aspects as the drivers, with Juan Pablo Montoya finally signing an extension of his contract, and the new 2003 FW25 are appearing more frequently.

Williams & MontoyaThe WilliamsF1 team recognises that in 2002 the FW24 was no match of Ferrari's F2002, but even with the team struggling to challenge Ferrari they are still very close to finish second in the constructors title, which was a goal set by BMW Motorsport Director Gerhard Berger to do better better than in 2001.

Even with the satisfaction of achieving this goal Frank Williams is well aware the team will have to improve markedly if they want to challenge Ferrari. One aspect of this improvement for Williams is the continuation of Juan Pablo's contract with the WilliamsF1 team. Williams commented on this by saying: "With Montoya, we might be as strong in 2003 as we were in 1992 with Mansell. When he was our team driver, he suddenly turned out to be unbeatable."

As for the FW24's replacement, the FW25, there has also been considerable discussion and public comment in regard to what is the correct approach for the team in designing the new car. Should the team take risks in their design that weer not really taken in 2002. BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen has urged caution in this matter but for Frank Williams he knows that the team has to be prepared to take risks in order to be more successful.

Williams added: "Next year we won't repeat the mistake of not risking enough. We'll prove our technological boldness and present a revolutionary FW25."
