| BMW Motorsport Director, Dr
Mario Mario Theissen, confirmed on the BMW Motorsport web site that the
WilliamsF1 cars would use the modified version of the P82 engine in the
United States Grand Prix.
According
to BMW this engine will have the same power output figures as achieved in
Italy but would be restricted in the RPM's that would be used. BMW engineers
"secured a race permit" for this specification of engine which has involved
ensuring that the modified engine would run for longer distances.
Dr Theissen said: "We will be using the same specified engine in Sunday’s
race, as the one we used in qualifying in Monza. It also means that we will
have the same amount of power at our disposal. Of course we will not be
revving up to 19,000 rpm in the race, we’ll stay a couple of 100’s below
that figure." "It will be a hard test for the engine," Theissen added.
The race will be the first for the new engine and it is going to be a test
of reliability, with the engine running high RPM's for the seventy three
laps of the race. |
