| No on track advertising | |
| At the 2002 Hungarian Grand Prix
the public was first greeted with on track advertising, painted onto the circuit between
turns three and four. The on track advertisement was used at the Belgian Grand Prix on the run up to Les Combes
on the Friday practice. But while the effectiveness of such advertising was been discussed several drivers, including Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, spoke out against use of this form of advertising and it was not used any further at the Belgian GP weekend. Based on the concerns raised by drivers, in particular what the advertising would be like in the event of rain on the circuit, the FIA have has stated that there will be no further on track advertising in the future. An FIA statement read: “The World Motor Sport Council decided that with immediate effect, no form of advertising or decoration will be permitted on the track surface (run-off areas excepted)." |
