Major accident for McNIsh

Qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix would see Toyota's Allan McNish have a major accident at the 130R corner, the fastest corner on the Suzuka circuit. As a result the session was red flagged while the damaged barrier was repaired.

From the footage it appears that McNish, in his last Grand Prix for the Toyota team, lost the rear of his car at the exit of 130R whilst running at approximately 280 km/h. The car was destroyed on impact with the barriers. McNish was able to walk away from the accident but was taken to the on-site medical centre for precautionary checks.

It has been announced he will not participate in the remaining part of the session but the team expects that he will be clear to race tomorrow, his final race for the Toyota squad.
