The second Friday practice session for the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix would see the AT&T Williams team continue their setup work. Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima would finish the session in eighth and fourteenth respectively. For Nico it was an encouraging session but for Kazuki it was disappointing after not been able to put in a quick time due to the difficult track conditions.

 Brazilian GP Friday 2nd Practice

After an interrupted opening Friday practice that saw Kazuki Nakajima and Nico Rosberg finish in sixth and eighth the AT&T Williams team would be hoping for an improved second Friday practice session that would not be affected by rain. The session would get underway with overcast skies and as Vettel took to the track the first spots of rain started to fall. Several drivers including Nico Rosberg would be out early looking to get some track time before any rain. Heidfeld would set the first time with a 1m:16.961 while Vettel would set a 1m:15.425. Kobayashi would go quickest with 1m:14.516.

RosbergVettel's next lap would see him move back to the top of the times with a 1m:14.064. Buemi was now second from Webber and Kobayashi. Raikkonen would move up to third but was quickly passed by Trulli with a 1m:14.219. The times were falling quickly as Kovalainen went fastest with a 1m:13.695. Now it was Webbers's turn at the top of the times with a 1m:13.603, running on the softer tyre. Nico would improve to be third but Trulli would take this spot. Vettel, still on the harder tyres, would set a 1m:12.923 to go fastest. The only drivers not to take to the track were the Renault's of Alonso and Grosjean.

With ten minutes of the session run Buemi would put in a quick lap with a 1m:12.796 to move ahead of Vettel. Button was now fifth while team-mate Barrichello was down in fourteenth. Hamilton was sixth with a 1m:13.157. But Button would improve with a 1m:13.091 to be fourth while Barrichello was up to eighth. Buemi would take a few tenths off his time with a 1m:12.710 to remain fastest. Trulli would improve from seventh to third with a 1m:13.016. Nico was currently in thirteenth.

NakajimaWith twenty minutes run it was Buemi from Vettel, Trulli, Kovalainen, and Button. Vettel would take on the super soft tyres while Button after pitting for some adjustments would come back out and go fastest with a 1m:12.696. Webber would improve from ninth to sixth with a 1m:13.075, running on the super sift tyres. His next lap would see him fastest with a 1m:12.604. But Button would take away this spot with a time of 1m:12.523. Kovalainen was now fifth while team-mate Hamilton was in seventh. Button would lead the way from Webber, Buemi and Vettel with thirty five minutes of the session completed. But the rain was again looking threatening as Kubica improved to be fifth. Buemi would also improve to go fastest with a 1m:12.512. Both Kubica and Buemi were on the softer tyre.

RosbergTrulli was now fourth followed by Sutil. Nico Rosberg would move up to seventh in the standings using the super-soft tyre. He set a time of 1m:12.859s - 0.5s off the quickest time. Nico would improve to be fifth with a 1m:12.633. With sixty minutes completed the track was busy as the drivers worked through their evaluations. Barrichello was down in a slow nineteenth as Fisichella would stall his Ferrari at the end of the pit lane seeing his car pushed out of the way. Both Barrichello and Alonso would take to the track using the super soft tyres. Light drizzle was falling on the circuit making the conditions difficult.

Barrichello would move up to eleventh with a 1m:12.946 while Webber was up to second with a 1m:12.514. As the final minutes counted down the track was very busy as drivers looked to get one last run in. Alonso would move to the top of the order with a 1m:12.314. Barrichello was up to third with a 1m:12.459. So with the end of the session it would be Alonso fastest from Buemi, Barrichello, Webber, and Button in fifth place. Nico would finish the session in an encouraging eighth while Kazuki was down in a disappointing fourteenth after not been able to put in a quick time due to the difficult track conditions.
