The AT&T Williams team would continue to struggle with their drivers only managing fourteenth and sixteenth in the final practice session for the 2010 Spanish Grand Prix. Nico Hulkenberg would lead team-mate Rubens Barrichello with this result making it seem to be a very big ask for either driver to make it into the final period of qualifying.
Spanish GP Saturday
Practice
For Saturday
practice AT&T Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg would be back behind the wheel
of his repaired FW32 after his crash into the barrier exiting Campsa in the
second Friday practice session. Nico explained "I ran wide in the corner and
made too much contact with the kerb causing the car to bottom out." Both
drivers would start the session with new floor while Rubens would have a
revised front wing.
It
would take about fifteen minutes before Nico would start his first timed
lap. Nico was playing catch-up following his crash at Campsa. Nico's first
timed lap would be a 1m:24.378. Nico would improve with a 1m:23.492 on his
second timed lap. The session would be stopped when Petrov was to have a big
crash with twenty minutes of the session complete. Petrov had lost control
of his car at Turn four and hit the barrier with both ends of his Renault.
He had run over some wet kerbing which contributed to his spin. The kerb was
wet from overnight rain. Stewards had also confirmed that Virgin would face
a five-place grid penalty for both cars after it failed to declare the gear
ratios to be used for the weekend before the deadline after practice
yesterday.
It would take right up until the end of the session before Rubens would set
his quickest lap but it would only see him sixteenth with 1m:22.953. This
was three-tenths of a second behind team-mate Nico. Nico's best lap time was
a 1m:22.634 to finish the session in fourteenth. Looking at this result it
would seem to be a very big ask for either driver to make it into the final
period of qualifying.
