For the AT&T Williams team Rubens Barrichello would continue his encouraging pace finishing the second Friday practice session for the 2010 European GP in 10th. But for Nico Hulkenberg this session would see him drop down the order to finish in 17th. His time was some two seconds off the pace but more importantly 1.2 seconds off Rubens time. This is time that it is going to be difficult to find.

 European GP Friday 2nd Practice

After seeing their drivers finishing in tenth and eleventh positions after the opening Friday practice the AT&T Williams team would be hoping for an improvement in the second session. Williams was testing their version of the F-Duct on the FW32 in the first session. The session would commence and with the drivers again limited in their tyres no one was looking too ken to get out on the track. First to come out was Alonso followed by Sutil, Petrov, and Nico. More drivers would leave the pit lane with Rubens also coming out. Rubens would stop at the end of the pit lane to carryout a practice start.

BarrichelloVettel was next out to join team-mate Webber, but Webber would pit as Button, Liuzzi, and Hamilton also took to the track. The track was now becoming very busy as Alonso went fastest with a 1m:40.850 followed by Massa, Petrov, Nico, Sutil, and Glock. Nico's time was a 1m:42.415. Vettel would also pit as Ruben's moved into eighth, 1m:49.020. Kubica was now third and Sutil would move into fourth. Petrov was up to third, 1m:40.969, seeing Nico drop to fifth even though he had improved his time, 1m:41.793. Rubens was also able to improve to be sixth, 1m:41.803. Massa was now fastest, 1m:40.807, but he would be passed by Hamilton with a time of 1m:40.625. Nico had pitted joined by Petrov. Neither of the Red Bull cars had set a time, either had those of Mercedes Benz. All four drivers from these two teams were out on the track.

Alonso was now fastest with a 1m:39.928 while Kubica moved into second. But Massa was able to pass the Renault drivers with a time of 1m:40.245 to be in second. Kubica was third from Button, Hamilton, Sutil, Petrov, Rubens, Buemi, and Nico. Both Williams drivers were back in their pits as Senna waited for work on his car to be completed. Rubens time was a 1m:41.050. Nico would complain about understeer with his car with his time a 1m:41.793. Alonso would improve with a 1m:39.767 having found a few tenths. Button was now second, 1m:40.110 followed now by Kubica and then Massa. Both Mercedes cars were now on the circuit while both McLaren's had pitted. Alonso would also come in as Webber returned to the track. Sutil was now second, 1m:40.020, while Schumacher was up to seventh, 1m:40.914. Nico was back out having dropped to twelfth. Rubens was in ninth and also back out on the track.

HulkenbergNico was not running with the F-Duct in this session as he saw himself drop to thirteenth. With an hour and ten minutes remaining Alonso was still fastest from Sutil, Button, Kubica, and Massa. Rosberg would move to the top of the times going fifth fastest with a time of 1m:40.159. Schumacher was now eighth followed by Webber, Petrov, and Rubens now in eleventh. Nico had dropped to fifteenth as Rosberg pitted. Nico would set a time of 1m:41.406 to move up one place to be fourteenth. Vettel was down in eighteenth as team-mate Webber continued to circulate around the circuit. Nico would return to the pits as Vettel put in a major improvement to move up to second, 1m:39.983. Sutil had also left the pits while Rubens was running in eleventh and Nico was again in fifteenth.

Vettel was now fastest with a 1m:39.728 from Alonso, Sutil, Button, Kubica, Rosberg, Massa, Webber, Hamilton, and Schumacher in tenth. Both McLaren's were again out on the track while Nico continued to be in his pit while Rubens continued to put in further laps. Massa would spin his car after having put his car onto the kerb at Turn five. He was not able to get his car going and would get out of his car waving to the crowd. The session would be red flagged so that Massa's car could be lifted off the track. Everyone would pit with just under an hour remaining. The session would restart with Alonso, Rosberg, Webber, Schumacher, Nico, Alguersuari and Liuzzi are all out on the circuit. Alguersuari was out on the option tyre which should see him move up the times. Vettel was also out on the track as Webber moved up to fourth with a time of 1m:39.905.

Rosberg was now third, 1m:39.858, as Nico dropped to seventeenth, 1m:41.406. Button and Hamilton had pitted while Liuzzi had improved to be in twelfth, 1m:40.955. Kubica was now fourth, 1m:39.880, as both Rosberg and Webber were on improved laps. Rubens was back out with forty six minutes left in the session. Rosberg was now fastest with a 1m:39.650 but Webber would move ahead with a time of 1m:39.532. Rosberg was now second from Vettel, Alonso, Kubica, Sutil, Button, Massa, Hamilton, and Schumacher. Rosberg would pit while Nico had also come back in currently in seventeenth, 1m:41.398. Webber had also pitted as Vettel moved up to second with a time of 1m:39.635. His next lap would see him go fastest with a 1m:39.379. He had lost a bit of time in the last sector so he could have gone even faster.

HulkenbergRubens was now in twelfth as we had the top eleven all back in their pits. Rubens would pit having completed seventeen laps. Both Button and Hamilton were back out while Glock would stop out on the circuit. His car would be lifted away as Schumacher was out on the super-soft tyre as both Williams cars also returned to the circuit. Webber and Alonso had also come out as more drivers came out on the option tyre. Nico, Button, Hamilton and Alonso were all out on soft rubber. Hamilton was now in fourth, 1m:39.749, as Vettel came out. The speed traps were showing that the Williams of Nico was some 10kph off the pace. Alonso was able to improve to go fastest, 1m:39.283, on the softer tyre. Alonso was fastest from Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Kubica, and Sutil.

In the last half an hour of the session Rubens would continue to run on the option tyre and he would improve to be twelfth with a 1m:40.407. He was over a second faster than Nico. Petrov would spin his tyre at Turn fourteen while Rubens continued to run and was able to find further time moving up two spots to be in tenth, 1m:40.174. Rubens was able to put in around ten laps on the softer tyre as Rubens pitted. The final fifteen minutes would see the session get quite busy with Massa also been able to get back out onto the track. With the end of the session it was Alonso fastest from Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Kubica, Massa, Sutil, Button, and Rubens in tenth.

With Rubens in an encouraging tenth he continued to show some pace from the FW32 but Nico was way down the order in seventeenth some two seconds off the quickest pace. He was 1.2 seconds off Rubens pace which would be a very difficult amount of time to find.
