After a very wet
opening Friday practice the second session would also see the track wet as
the drivers would come out for the ninety minute session. Buemi would take
to the track first joined by by Schumacher, Vettel, Yamamoto, Rosberg and
Webber. Buemi and Schumacher would pit joined by Vettel. The conditions were
better than the opening session as Massa would take to the track. There was
a lot less spray coming off the tyres as we saw Rubens Barrichello, Button,
Kobayashi, and Alonso come out. Yamamoto was on a timed lap setting a time
of 2m:10.985. At this time the full wet was the tyre of choice but if the
track conditions improved intermediate tyres could be seen.
 De la Rosa was now fastest with a 2m:09.031. Massa would go faster with a
2m:04.070 as Kubica and Liuzzi came out of the pits. Rubens was on his first
timed lap as Buemi returned to the track. Button was now second with a
2m:06.927 but Alonso would move into this spot with a 2m:05.979. Rubens was
in seventh with a 2m:12.393. De la Rosa Yamamoto was in fifth followed by
Kobayashi. Alonso was out on the intermediate tyre as Kubica went second,
2m:04.890. This would become third as Alonso went fastest with a 2m:000.481.
Liuzzi was now second but he was 2.7 seconds behind Alonso. Rubens was now
up to fourth, 2m:04.418.
Massa would pit while we had Kubica in fifth from Button. Buemi was now in
fourth, 2m:04.401, while Liuzzi would improve his time with a 2m:02.692, but
remained in second. Rubens had pitted while Nico was now out on the track.
He was joined by several other drivers including Webber, Petrov, Sutil,
Glock, Hamilton, and Alguersuari. Rosberg was now fourth, 2m:04.281, while
Alonso would set a 1m:59.490 while Liuzzi would also improve with a
2m:00.915. Petrov was up to fourth, 2m:03.630. Massa was now fourth from
Rosberg, Buemi, Rubens, Schumacher, and Kubica in tenth. Sutil was now
second with a 2m:00.432.Nico's first time was a 2m:00.537 to be in third.
Liuzzi was now fourth from Alguersuari and Glock.
Hamilton was also on the intermediate tyres and would set a 1m:59.397 to go
fastest. But it would start to rain again as we had Glock and Liuzzi spin
off. Sutil was second from Alonso, Webber, Petrov, and Nico in sixth. Liuzzi
was able to get out of the gravel trap while Glock had hit the barrier quite
hard ending his session. Glock had clipped the white line, spinning his car
into a high-speed spin and a sideways impact into the tyres. Rubens was now
in thirteenth while Vettel was up to ninth, 2m:03.060. Nico would also pit
while Button was down in seventeenth. Liuzzi would pit to get a new front
wing fitted. Massa was on a quick lap going fastest with a 1m:58.591, also
running on the intermediate tyre. But he would be passed by Kubica with a
1m:58.311.
Kubica was now leading from Webber, who moved into second, Massa, Hamilton,
Sutil, Alonso, Vettel, Button, Petrov, and Nico in tenth. Vettel had
improved to be seventh, 1m:59.726. The sun was again showing as Rubens was
back out on the track. There were dry patches on the circuit as Rubens would
improve to go from seventeenth to be sixth, 1m:59.252. Sutil would move to
the top of the times with a 1m:58.149 while Rubens had also improved to now
be fifth, 1m:58.994. Rosberg would jump up to sixth with a time of
1m:59.021. Rubens would pit while fifteenth placed Nico was back out. Nico's
current time was a 2m:00.537 with fifty four minutes left in the session.
Alguersuari would be the first driver to come out on slicks. He would set a
time of 1m:58.317 to move up to third.
Webber was back out as Alguersuari would go fastest with a 1m:55.329, to be
2.8 seconds ahead of Sutil. Button would leave the pit lane with the softer
slick fitted as Petrov improved to now be second with a 1m:57.242 with forty
minutes left in the session. Kobayashi was also out on the slick tyre
setting a 1m:53.678 to go fastest. Buemi was now third from Petrov, Webber,
Sutil, Kubica, Massa, Rubens, and Rosberg in tenth. With a dry line how
visible around the lap Kobayashi would improve with a 1m:52.625. Alguersuari
was also able to improve with a 1m:52.977 while Rubens returned to the
track. Nico would also come out, currently in seventeenth. Buemi would
improve his time, 1m:53.941, but remained in third. But Button would move
ahead of the Torro Rosso with a 1m:53.719. Kobayashi would again improve with a 1m:51.729 while Rubens would
spin at Le Source but was able to continue.
Nico's first lap would see him jump up to sixth with a 1m:55.421. Button was
now fastest with a 1m:51.137. Webber had slowed after been concerned about
his engine. His team would report that all was OK and that he could
continue. Nico would again improve with a 1m:52.632 but Kubica would move
into fourth, 1m:52.067. Button was on a very quick lap setting a 1m:49.755
to extend his lead margin to Kobayashi, 1.974 seconds. Nico was now seventh
while Rubens was now in ninth. Massa was up to second while Nico would
improve to be third, 1m:51.122. Kubica was now second with a 1m:50.250 while
Button had pitted. Massa would move ahead of Kubica while Sutil was in
fourth from Schumacher, Hamilton, Nico, Kobayashi, Vettel, and Buemi in tenth.
With twenty eight minutes remaining the track was now very busy while Sutil
would go fastest with a 1m:49.698. Massa was now fourth followed by Alonso
while Hamilton would go fastest, running on the softer dry tyre, with a
1m:49.248. Kubica was again second with a 1m:49.282 while Hamilton would
pit. The times would continue to fall as Sutil went fastest with a
1m:49.157, while De la Rosa was now in eighth. Kobayashi would now in
seventh, 1m:50.234, while for Williams Nico and Rubens were in eleventh and
twelfth. Nico was back out on the track with twenty minutes remaining. The
top three were all back in their pits while Vettel would move up to fourth,
1m:49.689. Alonso would move ahead with a 1m:49.538, while Nico and Rubens
had dropped to fourteenth and fifteenth. Vettel would pit from fifth while
Massa was one place behind him followed by Button, Kobayashi, Petrov, and Schumacher.
Rubens was now also out on the track while Alguersuari would split the
Williams pair being in fourteenth. Nico was now in fourteenth and Rubens
fifteenth with fifteen minutes remaining as the session was red flagged. The
track would empty with Nico the last to pit. As the time counted down the
initial reports was that there were spectators in a dangerous position. But
the Safety Car would complete a lap of the circuit without stopping. Webber
would say on his radio that he was losing valuable track time. The session
would restart with four minutes remaining. There was a rush of drivers
coming out with Alonso at the head of the queue. Nico was on the option tyre
along with a large number of other drivers. They would probably only get one
flying lap in what was left of the session.
Alonso would start his flying lap followed by Massa. The session would end
as Alonso went quickest with a 1m:49.032. Massa could only manage fifth
while Hamilton was in third. Webber was down in eighteenth while Rubens
would move up to ninth, 1m:50.128, while Nico was down in fifteenth,
1m:50.831. Sutil was still second from Hamilton, Kubica, Massa, Vettel,
Button, De la Rosa, Rubens, and Kobayashi in tenth. The drivers would again
stop at the start grid to practice their starts. It was nearly impossible to
read the form of not only the Williams drivers but most of the field. The
last lap was one of trying to find a clear track. Nico was one to have
possibly been affected by this as he completed his final lap. |
