AT&T Williams F1 drivers Rubens Barrichello would finish in the top ten after the second Friday practice for the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. Team-mate Pastor Maldonado would finish two places back in twelfth. It was a session that saw several red flags as a result of crashes. Despite making a few mistakes both Williams drivers were able to get through the session coming away happy with the work achieved.

The second practice session for the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix would see Perez being replaced by Pedro de la Rosa at Sauber for the rest of the weekend. Perez had been complaining about feeling unwell as a result of his Monaco crash. In the earlier session AT&T Williams F1 drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado would finish in seventh and seventeenth. With the start of the session Alguersuari would be first out joined by several other drivers. Alguersuari was on the development medium tyre and would set the first time with a 1m:21.955. Rubens would be the first of the Williams cars to take to the track while Di Resta set a 1m:20.038 to be fastest. Kobayashi was now second with a 1m:21.894, but Alguersuari would move ahead with a 1m:20.943.

With five minutes of the session run only five drivers were in their pits as Di Resta improved with a 1m:18.560. Both Ferrari's were out on the medium tyre as Petrov set a 1m:18.560 to go fastest. As Webber took to the track Rubens would go fastest with a 1m:18.654. But Massa would quickly beat this time with a 1m:18.559. But Heidfeld would move ahead by a considerable margin setting a 1m:17.499. With eight minutes of the session run only De la Rosa and the McLaren's had yet to come out. Massa would improve with a 1m:17.751 but remained second. Webber was now third but Petrov would take this spot with a 1m:17.781.

Webber would improve with a 1m:17.243 to be second, while team-mate Vettel was now in eighth with a lap of 1m:19.042. Now it was Alonso's turn to go fastest on the medium tyre setting a 1m:16.985. Pastor was out on the circuit and had a moment taking to the grass at one of the chicanes. He would also cut the final chicane seeing Pastor down in sixteenth while Vettel was out on the soft tyre and would set a 1m:16.262 to be fastest. Rubens had pitted while Vettel set an improved 1m:15.739 to increase his margin at the top. Hamilton was now third from Webber the McLaren driver setting a 1m:16.908. Button was up to seventh after his first run.

Hamilton would move up to second with a 1m:15.977. Button would also improve to be third to be ahead of Webber. Alonso was now fifth followed by Heidfeld. With nearly thirty minutes of the session completed Pastor would move into the top ten with a 1m:17.799. Rubens had dropped down to be fourteenth while Pastor had pitted. With thirty minutes completed Sutil would move up to fifth with a 1m:16.905. Massa was now fourth running on the soft tyre, as he improved with a 1m:15.616 to be second. Alonso was now third as Webber set an improved lap of 1m:16.102 to be sixth. Several drivers were making mistakes cutting chicanes. Sauber continued to try and get de la Rosa's car ready for him as Alonso went fastest with a 1m:15.205, running on the soft tyre.

With forty five minutes of the session complete we started to see drivers coming out on the super soft tyres. Rubens was back out and would improve with a lap of 1m:17.520 running on the super soft tyre, to be thirteenth. He would return to his pit after a short number of laps. Pastor was able to move up to eighth. Sutil would run his car into the barriers with his front left making contact damaging his suspension. He would park his car down the track while Kobayashi would this time bring out the red flag when he would put his car into the wall with the right side of his car badly damaged after he slid his car wide and into the wall. Kobayashi had hit the pervious kerb which had sent his car across the track and into the wall. His car would be removed and eventually the session would be restarted.

De la Rosa would finally get put onto the track with around twenty minutes remaining. More drivers were out on the super soft tyres but the session would again be red flagged when d'Ambrosio was to crash at the same place as Kobayashi. As a result of debris Hamilton would pick up a puncture but was able to get back to his pit. The session would again be re-started with Heidfeld, Trulli and Kovalainen first back out. Both Williams drivers were back out with just over ten minutes left in the session. Alonso would improve his quickest time with a 1m:15.107. As the session drew to a close Rubens would be able to improve to move up to tenth while Pastor would drop down to twelfth. Alonso would remain fastest with Vettel second. Massa was in third, Hamilton fourth and Button in fifth place.

Despite been behind Pastor for most of the session Rubens was able to move ahead in the closing stages of the session. Both drivers would be happy with the Friday practice session as the team worked through a wide range of developments that the team had for their cars. It would come down to how well the team would use this practice information come Saturday's practice and qualifying.
