Despite the recent changes taking place at the AT&T Williams F1 team, including the announcement that the team will use Renault engines in 2012, team driver Rubens Barrichello has spoken of how it is not a certainty that he will now remain with the team in 2012.

Even though he can see many positives coming from the changes it does not guarantee that he will stay.

In respect of the switch to the Renault engine, In an article in Tuttosport, Ruben said: "It's good to have a powerful engine behind you and I'm convinced that with Renault we will take a quantum leap."

But he also added that moving to another team was not out of the question. Rubens added: "But the team needs to show their interest just as I am showing mine, and then we can agree.

"I do not exclude the prospect of switching to another team, if Williams doesn't offer me a reasonable solution. But it's not a priority," he insisted.

"If there are other people willing to have me next year, and Williams do not want me to continue with them, then yes, I would look elsewhere."

I suppose the headline should read, 'Williams may look elsewhere'.

Perhaps Williams wants a long term prospect. Maybe Renault wants a protege at Williams? Or is there another multi-million pay driver talking to Adam?

I don't think it makes much difference for 2012 who drives while the problem is building a credible car.

"I am convinced that with renault we will make a big leap." That does not sound like a man that wants to move.

He is worried that Renault want to put one of their own into a seat.

Williams and proud of it.

Rubens has had a good run, let's face it. He shouldn't need to blah-blah.

He was narrowly saved by the bell when Honda pulled out and has since had two years at Williams. That's quite a lot of borrowed time.

No disrespect to the guy at all, but talent-spotting newcomers is the way forward. And it does seem that engine suppliers like to have their own stable . . . Rosberg, Di Resta and Hulk all seem very much under Mercedes direction.

The top four GP2 guys are pretty evenly matched so far. Grosjean has Renault links, Van der Garde has McGregor links. Valsecchi reportedly has pots of money, Sam Bird I believe also has links to Mercedes.

Do you really want rookies filling up the space in williams, i mean surely you would want a known quantity driving along Maldonado (who seems certain to stay for a year or so yet) If it wasn't Rubens, i'd have to say Williams should go for a Heidfeld, or someone who can show what the car is capable of even if they aren't able to exceed it.

Anyway i don't think you have to worry about marching to Renaults tune just yet, if they look to take a bigger role with Williams come 2014 with the new engine Regs then you might have to start choosing drivers they want. Until then i doubt Adam Parr would of said that he wants to keep Rubens onboard if they had signed a contract saying Renault get to choose one driver and PDVSA chooses the other.

Rookies can do the job well on the mid field , just see
Sauber, Toro Rosso and Di Resta in FI... And also the team could save money.

All the reports state that Kubica will be fit by the end of the year, and he will be looking for a drive for 2012, as I am lead to believe his contract with Renault expires at the end of the year. I would be amazed if Kubica and Williams had not spoken with one-another, and regardless of the risk, he is potentially a great signing at a discount price.

There must be a doubt regarding whether he will gain enough fitness for F1. It was a severe injunry. The biggest quesion is whether he will regain the dexterity to manipulate the controls on the steering wheel. I hope so.

I believe that RK has a get out clause in his contract if RenaultF1 do not have a competitive engine.

Williams and proud of it.

Normally no, but I'm not sure it will make that much difference next year and 2012 must be Rubens sell-by date.

Put it this way, if Rubens decided to retire, would you hire Trulli or a promising newcomer? I think that's the only sort of choice lacklustre Williams has at the moment.

If you were a Trulli fan, you'd probably say Trulli. But he's a lot further past his sell-by than Rubens IMO.

I have no problem with keeping Rubens, BTW. There's something to be said for continuity. I'm just discussing options.

Yes, 'fine motor movements' as the medics call it. It was an x-certificate smash. It's easily possible, of course, to fit a wheel with more paddles and levers than buttons. Depends how much someone wants him.

Boullier has already spoken to Webber, so I don't think he is counting on Robert exactly.

I think that the only way I would let Barrichello go is if we can get Kubica

Sam Bird is a McLaren protege I believe. Grosjean has had his chance. I didn't know Van der Garde was linked with McGregor, that's interesting given Williams association with them too.

I'm not sure Renault treat F1 the same as Mercedes or Red Bull. They've never shown the desire to place their young drivers in teams. Do they even have a young driver programme? Anyway, digression. Rubens has served his purpose. New blood needed. Timo Glock had a good season at Toyota before landing at Virgin. He is worth a go.

I will repeat once again. In my opinion Glock isn't quick enough, especially in qualifying, to be Williams number 1 driver. Even if we consider his driving at Toyota as good, Trulli still beat him and Jarno looks quite off the pace of Kovalainen in Team Lotus.

Kubica is an interesting prospect for Williams, i believe i read an article saying he will get some testing with older F1 cars through Renault before the end of the season, to help him get back into the rhythm and probably to assess his ability.

For me Kubica is the only driver who is going to be available that would be worth droping Rubens for. (so i'm gonna be hoping Kubica extends his deal by a year)
