Maldonado
hopes to win championship with Williams
Having been with
the Williams F1 team for two season Pastor Maldonado is keen to stay with
the team beyond the end of this season hoping that he can win the world
championship with the team. Pastor has taken the first major step in
securing his first victory in the Spanish Grand Prix.
During a press conference in Venezuela, Pastor said that he definitely
wanted to stay with Williams next season and is looking a challenging for
the drivers title.
In an interview quoted by AS Pastor said: "I would, without doubt, stay
there a while, a year at least. Before leaving Williams I would like to win
the championship with them. I would give the opportunity for this great team
- that gave me the opportunity for me to get on the F1 grid for the first
time - to win a world championship."
As for the possibility of changing teams if the opportunity presented itself
Pastor said that anything was a possibility. He added: "In F1 you never know
what might happen ... there are enough teams on the grid."
He said after Barcelona that he was targeting the title this year. :p
Whatever you think about him, it's fine that he shows some kind of loyalty. He would like to win the title with us, unlike for example Rosberg, who wanted to win races for whoever gets him the winning car. Of course his situation was completely different, but it's fine to hear that Williams is the first choice for some drivers.
Bottas stated recently that he is hoping for long career with Williams also.
One of the (evil, I have to admit) things I remember from my thoughts back in March was: All of that to win a race one month before Maldonado in a Williams. :-)
