The second Friday parctice session for the 2012 Belgian GP would, like the first, be hampered by heavy rain. We would only see a very limited amount of track time from both Williams F1 drivers. Pastor Maldonado would finish 5th while Bruno Senna would not set a time.
Belgian GP Friday 2nd
Practice
After enduring
wet weather in the opening Friday practice session for the 2012 Belgian
Grand Prix the Williams F1 team would again be presented with further rain
as the second Friday practice got underway. Ferrari had replaced Massa's
engine after his first practice session failure. With the opening of the pit
lane there was no rush to take to the track. Bruno Senna was again back for
this session seeing Valtteri Bottas watching proceedings from the rear of
the Williams garage. With thirty minutes of the session completed there had
been no activity and the weather conditions were not expected to change.
Forty two minutes remaining and still the weather played havoc but finally
we would see a car come out with Rosberg coming out. As he went around the
lap it showed how much standing water there was. He would complete his lap
returning to the pit lane where he would stop at his pi and then continue
back out. Schumacher and Kovalainen would also come out as Rosberg pitted.
Kovalainen would spin at Le Combes as Rosberg returned to the track. Both
Schumacher and Kovalainen would pit with Schumacher coming back out. Rosberg
would pit going back into his garage. Schumacher would pit seeing the track empty with just over thirty minutes
remaining in the session. Schumacher would come back out pitting after one
lap. Hamilton and Hulkenberg would also come out joined by Vettel.
Schumacher had pitted being wheeled into his garage.
HRT had announced that their cars would not be running in the session.
Hulkenberg would pit but would come back out. Button would join team-mate
Hamilton with twenty minutes remaining. Hamilton would pit followed by
Hulkenberg. Despite all the activity no times were being set. Everyone would
pit but Button would come back out followed by Vettel. Massa was next out
and after completing a lap Vettel and Button would pit. Massa would also
come in with fourteen minutes remaining, returning to the track. For
Williams Bruno and Pastor would get ready to go out as Massa again pitted.
Bruno would be first to come out for what would be an exploratory lap. Bruno
would pit after one lap with six minutes remaining, coming back out. Pastor
would also take to the track joined by Glock. Both Sauber's also also come
out joined by Pic.
Pastor and Bruno would pit running through the pit lane and again returning
to the track. Alonso would also come out joined by Vergne, Di Resta, and
Hulkenberg. Ricciardo would also come out as the session came to a close.
Glock would set a 2m:52.076 while Pastor would complete his lap setting a
lap time of 2m:51.660 to be fastest. Alonso would go quicker with a
2m:50.497 as Di Resta moved up to second, 2m:51.333. The drivers were
completing the lap setting a time as they completed practice starts on the
grid. Bruno had pitted having not set a time. Again this session was one
where nothing really was learnt in terms of the Williams team performance so
now it would come down to just a single hour long session on Saturday to get
the car sorted if the weather changed to be dry.
