Teams react to rule changes

With the announcement of the rule changes for the 2003 season the reaction amongst the various teams has been mixed.

For Eddie Jordan he would praise the move to reduce costs, a move which will greatly assist teams such as his which do not have huge budgets.

Jordan was quoted as saying: "This was the most positive day in my Formula One career as there was total unanimity between all parties involved in the sport - FIA, FOM and all the teams - concerning cost savings which are enormously beneficial to the sport. Everyone has come to realise that the show is the most important element and we have restructured Formula One accordingly in a way which is good for everyone, including Jordan. I'm really looking forward to going racing again."

But for the top teams the reaction was not so positive. For some they did not criticise the changes but their reaction was lukewarm at best.

For Frank Williams he would give his preliminary approval but said the execution and finalisation of the changes were crucial.

Williams was quoted as saying in the Guardian newspaper: "I feel largely positive about these new rules as long as we sort out the fine detail
properly." The reaction of the BMW WilliamsF1 team will be dealt with in more detail in a separate article.

For McLaren's Ron Dennis his reaction was limited to a "no comment" as he left the meeting. This seems to indicate that he is less than happy with the changes.
