After several seasons that saw the Williams team struggle to produce a competitive performance the 2014 season has seen the team changes their fortunes. For Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams this change has been the result of a combination of factors but it has seen the team become confident with the morale in the team at a high level. With the teams home race the British GP only a few days away the team is aiming to continue their good form and produce another good result.
Williams
confident ahead of British GP
After several
seasons that saw the Williams team struggle to produce a competitive
performance Claire Williams is again confident that 2014 has seen the team
start to turn things around as they move back to being one of the top teams
in Formula One again.
In the last
series of races in 2014, in particular the Austrian GP, the Williams team
has seen their drivers produce improving results. In Austria the team took a
one-two in qualifying followed up by Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa
finishing third and fourth in the race. This has seen the Williams team
achieve its best points result from a single race since 2010.
This is a marked changed from 2013 where the Williams team could only manage
just five points from a ninth-place finish. This was the worst season from
the team in its history, a history that has seen it achieve both drivers and
constructors championship victories.
2014 has seen the team improve over the results of previous years but for
Claire Williams it wasn’t just a case those whop have joined the team
recently changing the fortunes of the team.
Claire said: "It's been a combination of factors.
"We had a great team before those guys came in, but it was a case of
augmenting that with more support at a senior level.
"Having Pat, Rob, Jakob and a number of other guys behind the scenes as well
who we brought in, supporting the talent we have, has been a game-changer
for us," added Williams.
"It's all about momentum as well, and with team morale at a really high
level now, it all goes to build to your position, and that is where we are
as a team," she explained.
"There is so much positive momentum. We have to embrace that, capitalise on
it so we make the most of it for the rest of the season.
"Everyone believes this team can get back to the top, and you have to
believe in that in order to do it."
In Austria the team took a one-two in qualifying followed up by Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finishing third and fourth in the race. This has seen the Williams team achieve its best points result from a single race since 2010.
I think it's best points result ever and a most competitive two cars finish since 2005.

The problem for this race is that Susie Wolff will be driving in Fp1, so that means we will be running with only one car in that session. Hopefully it will be wet and so we don't lose too much to the others.
Give Susie a break, I'm looking forward to seeing her run and the forecast is for dry weather at Silverstone in the AM, Go Susie.

There are stories that Williams will go the way of Tyrrell. Well, over my dead body. No way. That's not going to happen. My dream is to make this a world championship-winning team again. Claire Williams
Hoping for a good weekend... But I can't shake the feeling that our race pace will not be good enough for a top six finish. As long as we beat FI I'll be reasonably happy. Let's see how it goes.
I think it will be tight behind the Mercs (again). We have the advantage of straight line speed but I fear that might no be enough to beat the RBRs and Alonso. FI are very likely to play spoilers again with their tyre-wear advantage. Macca seem a bit off as they suffer worse on rear wear than we do. The tyres are harder for this race and that may help us a bit.
And completely off topic, I was mightily impressed with Michaela Cerutti's performances in AutoGP at the weekend. She may be one to watch if she gets a F1 offer.
