Japanese GP: Massa 16th for Williams Martini in FP2

In the second Friday practice session for the 2015 Japanese GP only one Williams Martini driver would set a time. Felipe Massa, running on intermediates, would set a time that would see him finish 16th. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas would not run at all in the session and would not set a time. It was a session that was again affected by variable wet track conditions with times being set on a mixture of intermediate and full wet tyres. There was not a lot to be drwan from the times especially if it is dry on Saturday.

Team Summary:
It would be twenty three minutes into the session before Felipe Massa would take to the track for his first run with used intermediate tyres. Felipe had set a 1m:52.765 to be fourteenth. With just under an hour left in the session quickest was Kvyat with a 1m:48.277 running on intermediate tyres. Rosberg was second followed by Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, and Raikkonen sixth. But the rain again started to fall seeing most cars back in their pits. Thirty minutes remaining and the track was empty as the rain continued to fall now even heavier. Most teams were reluctant to send their cars back out. The only driver on the track was Alonso but he was three seconds off the times being set on the intermediates in the first sector, while he was on the full wet.

With under ten minutes left in the session Vettel, Hamilton and Button would come out but Button would pit after one lap complaining that it was aquaplaning on the straight. Next out would be the Force India cars along with Raikkonen. Both Force India's would pit after one lap along with Hamilton. Both Ferrari's continued to lap the circuit. Alonso had also come out while for Williams both drivers remained in their pits as the session came to an end.

With the variable track conditions the times did not give a true reflection of the true pace of drivers. Kvyat was quickest but he would set his time on intermediates while Rosberg and Hamilton had set their times on full wets. If Saturday is dry the morning session will be very busy for the teams as they work through their dry weather setup schedule.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out for the Williams Martini team and his first timed run would produce a 1m:52.765 to be fourteenth. He was running on used intermediate tyres that had completed well over a dozen laps. Felipe would say "I'm still struggling with the front." Felipe was suffering from graining problems. Felipe would pit and would drop to sixteenth. Felipe would only complete six laps with this rain affected session.

Valtteri Bottas:
While Felipe was out on the track Valtteri was still in his pit. With forty minutes left in the session Valtteri had yet to set a time. As the clock counted down Valtteri was still in his pit having not come out at all. IT would stay this was as the session ended.
