Abu Dhabi GP: Massa 10th for Williams Martini in FP1

The opening Friday practice for the 2015 Abu Dhabi GP would see Williams Martini drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas finish in 10th and 11th positions. It was an uneventful session for both drivers with the pair only completing two runs each in the session. Both would complete an early run but it would take into the final half hour before they came out again. Both runs were on the soft tyre.

Martini Abu Dhabi GP Friday 1st Practice
Team Summary:
For the 2015 Abu Dhabi GP Pirelli would supply the soft and super soft
tyres. For the Williams Martini team having secured third place in the
championship there was still the question as to whether Valtteri Bottas
would finish fourth in the drivers championship. Both Williams drivers would
complete their installation lap. Both cars were running without Martini
logos in line with the restrictions in Abu Dhabi. The first time would come
from Rosberg with a 1m:55.130 but he would improve with a 1m:44.626 with
Hamilton second. Verstappen would go second with a 1m:48.412 followed by
Ericsson and Hamilton. A 1m:45.949 from Hamilton to see him second. A
1n:44.102 from Rosberg with Perez now second with a 1m:45.822.
Hamilton would move up to second with a 1m:44.957 followed by Perez,
Raikkonen, and Valtteri. Hulkenberg would move into third with the Williams
drivers sixth and tenth. A 1m:43.996 from Hamilton would see him quickest
with the Williams pair now sixth and seventh. Rosberg would move ahead of
Hamilton with a 1m:44.102. Maldonado would go sixth seeing Valtteri and
Felipe drop to seventh and eighth. Raikkonen was now third with both
Williams cars back in the pits with the pair seventh and ninth. With the
first thirty minutes completed the track would be empty as the teams
finished using their initial set of tyres.
Present in the Williams pit was Frank Williams. With fifty minutes remaining
Alonso was first back out moving up to eighth seeing Felipe drop to tenth
behind Verstappen. Rosberg was back out on a quick lap going quickest in the
first two sectors but failed to improve. With forty minutes remaining both
Williams cars were in the pits with the track now quite busy. Ricciardo was
now fifth with Valtteri and Felipe now tenth and thirteenth. Alonso was
seventh with a 1m:45.865. Thirty minutes remaining and both Williams cars
were still in their pits, currently twelfth and fifteenth. Hamilton was now
quickest with a 1m:43.754. Both Williams drivers were getting ready to
return to their cars. Both would return to the track and Felipe would move
ahead of Valtteri with the pair tenth and twelfth. Valtteri would move up to
eleventh. Vettel was now fifth as both Williams drivers continued their
runs. With the end of the session Hamilton was quickest from Rosberg,
Raikkonen, Kvyat, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Perez, Maldonado, and
Felipe tenth.
Felipe Massa:
Felipe would come out a few places behind his team-mate also out on his
installation lap. Felipe would also only complete one installation lap. With
fifteen minutes of the session completed Felipe would come back out and
would set a 1m:53.827 to be eleventh. A quicker 1m:47.558 would see Felipe
ninth then tenth. Felipe would improve with a 1m:46.669 to seventh right
behind Valtteri. Felipe would also pit having dropped to ninth. Felipe would
follow his team-mate out onto the track which only had a few cars on it.
Felipe would set a 1m:45.433 to go tenth and ahead of his team-mate.
Valtteri Bottas:
First out for Williams would be Valtteri for his installation lap running on
the soft tyre. Valtteri would pit after one lap. Valtteri would be first
back out for his timed laps and his first time was a 1m:46.865 to be third.
He would drop to fourth then sixth as other drivers went quicker. Valtteri
would pit after having completed eight laps. With twenty minutes remaining
Valtteri would return to what was a clear track looking to complete eight
timed laps. Valtteri was currently eleventh with a time of 1m:45.734. With
Felipe moving ahead Valtteri would drop to twelfth. Valtteri would improve
with a 1m:45.603 to be eleventh. Valtteri would come into the pit lane as
the session drew to a close but he was quickly back out.
