Spanish GP: Difficult time for Williams Martini in FP2

The second Friday practiice session for the 2016 Spanish GP would see both Williams Martini drivers have a difficult time with the pair only finishing in 11th and 16th. Valtteri Bottas would lead home his team-mate Felipe Massa. Both drivers would focus on what appeared to be longer runs on both the soft and medium tyre. For the Williams team there is a large amount of time that has to be found come Saturday''s practice and qualifying.

Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session would see Raikkonen set the quickest early time with a 1m:26.525, running on the medium tyre. The first run from Williams would see Valtteri Bottas second. Vettel would go quickest with a 1m:26.306 also on the medium tyre. The session would be stopped when Palmer would suffer a tyre failure on the main straight leaving tyre debris that needed to be removed. The session would restart with Raikkonen moving to the top of the times with a 1m:24.176. Sainz was second followed by Hamilton and Verstappen. For Williams Valtteri would go fourth after his soft tyre run. Felipe was only thirteenth after his run on the soft tyre.

Ricciardo would move up to third after a soft tyre run. Vettel was now second with a 1m:25.017 followed by Sainz and Ricciardo. Rosberg was out on soft tyres and he would finish with a 1m:23.922 to go quickest, followed by Raikkonen and Vettel. Hamilton was out on the soft tyre. For Williams Valtteri and Felipe were in eleventh and fifteenth positions. Hamilton would move up to third, 1m:24.641. Both Williams drivers were back out with both pitting briefly having completed live pit stops. They would complete longer runs on the soft tyre prior to pitting taking on medium tyres for their next runs. Valtteri and Felipe were currently eleventh and sixteenth. With nine minutes remaining and both Williams drivers had completed ten laps on the medium tyre. Both drivers were lapping in the low 1m:30s which was comparable with other drivers.

With the end of the session the top ten would be Rosberg from Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel, Sainz, Ricciardo, Alonso, Verstappen, Perez, and Hulkenberg. Valtteri would finish in eleventh and Felipe sixteenth. It was a difficult day for the Williams team with both drivers dropping off the pace with a large amount of time to be found overnight to get the Williams drivers back into the top ten come Saturday.

Felipe Massa:
With ten minutes completed Felipe would come out for his first run also on medium tyres. After the red flag Felipe was quick to return back out as he had yet to set a time. It was reported that Felipe's delay in coming out was due to changing his seat padding. His first lap time was a 1m:27.173 seeing him currently ninth. Felipe would pit after his first run. He would drop to eleventh then twelfth. Felipe would also come back out with just over an hour remaining, also on the soft tyre. Felipe would run wide at Turn nine while on his first run on the soft tyre. This would see him fail to improve his time. But he would continue and would set a 1m:26.491 which was an improvement but he was only thirteenth. He would pit having completed five laps. With forty minutes remaining Felipe would return running on his used set of soft tyres. Felipe would also complete a longer run on the soft tyres also pitting to return on a set of medium tyres. Thirteenth would become fifteenth as other drivers went faster. Felipe would finish in sixteenth having completed sixteen laps on his medium tyre run.

Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would be first out for the Williams team again on the medium tyre. Valtteri's first timed lap was good enough for second, 1m:26.924, having gone fastest in the final sector. Valtteri would drop to seventh as others went faster. This would become tenth as Valtteri returned this time on the soft tyre. Valtteri was on a quicker lap and would finish with a 1m:25.708 to now be fourth. Valtteri would pit after having set his soft tyre time, having completed just three laps. Valtteri had dropped to eighth with just under fifty minutes remaining. This would become ninth with forty three minutes remaining. Valtteri would also follow his team-mate out also on his used set of soft tyres. Valtteri would complete a long run on the soft tyres prior to pitting to take on a set of medium tyres. Having completed fifteen laps Valtteri would pit with the end of the session.
