The opening Friday practice for the 2016 Canadian GP would be a mixed one for the Williams Martini team. Valtteri Bottas would finish the session in an encouraging 6th but for team-mate Felipe Massa his session would see him finish in 14th. But his session would be ruined when he was to crash heavily under braking at the end of the pit straight going backwards into the barrier removing his rear wing. Felipe would comment that it was an issue with the DRS, something the team would later confirm.
