Canadian GP: Bottas 6th in FP2 for Williams Martini

The second Friday practice session for the 2016 Canadian GP would see Williams Martini drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finish in 6th and 13th. It was a session where the Williams drivers were able to complete their programme with out any issues. Valtteri would comment that he felt the car had a good balance while Felipe was simply happy to have a session with out any dramas.

Martini Canadian GP Friday 2nd Practice
Team Summary:
With the start of the second Friday practice it would be Vettel who would
set a quick time with a 1m:17.815. Hamilton would go quickest with a
1m:17.564, also on the soft tyre. On the supersoft tyre Hulkenberg would go
quickest with a 1m:16.533 only to see Perez go quicker with a 1m:16.203.
After their first runs the Williams drivers were fifth and sixth but they
would drop to sixth and seventh. Vettel would go quickest with a 1m:16.164
still on the soft tyre. Perez would return to the top of the ties with a
1m:16.065. Rosberg was down in fifth running on the soft tyre.
Verstappen would go quickest with a 1m:15.920 but Vettel would go quicker
and then Ricciardo. Ricciardo's time was a 1m:15.530. But Verstappen would
respond with a 1m:15.442 to be quickest. Rosberg was now third but he was
still on the soft tyre. With just over fifteen minutes of the session
completed Valtteri and Felipe were tenth and twelfth. Hamilton would go
quickest with a 1m:15.343 but again Verstappen would respond with a
1m:15.259. Alonso was seventh to be behind Hulkenberg. Hamilton would again
go quickest with a 1m:14.941. After their ultrasoft tyre runs Valtteri and
Felipe would be second and fourth.
More drivers were coming out on the ultrasoft tyre with Perez going sixth,
1m:15.666. Rosberg would go quickest with a 1m:14.751 with Hulkenberg and
Perez fifth and sixth. But Sainz would move into sixth while Hamilton would
set a 1m:14.212 to move ahead of Rosberg. Rosberg had improved slightly with
a 1m:14.738. After the ultrasoft tyre runs Valtteri and Felipe would be
third and eighth. Vettel would go third seeing Valtteri fourth. Verstappen
and Ricciardo were now fourth and fifth. Valtteri was now sixth and Felipe
eleventh. Vettel would split the two Mercedes with a 1m:14.469 to be second.
Button was up to seventh. With forty minutes remaining both Williams cars
were back out still on the ultrasoft tyre.
The track was now quite busy as both Williams cars weer circulating with
laps times in the mid to high 1m:18s. With thirty minutes remaining both
Williams drivers continued on their longer runs. Both Red Bull cars were on
the supersoft tyre for their long runs. Their next runs would see the
Williams cars split their programme with Valtteri on the supersoft and
Felipe the soft. Valtteri and Felipe would complete their long runs and with
the end of the session were in sixth and thirteenth. Both drivers would
complete practice pit stops with the end of the session.
Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would take to the track first for Williams running on the supersoft
tyre. Valtteri would go quickest in the first two sectors but he would abort
his lap pitting instead. Valtteri would return to the track and would set a
1m:17.261 to be fifth. Valtteri had dropped down the order but would also
improve with a 1m:16.538 to be sixth. This would become seventh then tenth.
Like others Valtteri would improve with a 1m:16.125 to be seventh. Currently
eighth Valtteri would pit having completed seven laps. Valtteri would also
return running on the ultrasoft tyre. Valtteri would jump up to second with
a 1m:15.213.
Valtteri would pit having made a mistake at the final chicane being forced
to run past the bollard to return. Valtteri would drop to third then fourth
and then sixth. Valtteri would continue on the ultrasoft tyre setting times
now in the low to mid 1m:192. Valtteri would pit taking on a set of
supersoft tyres for his next run. Valtteri would complete twenty five laps
on his supersoft tyre prior to pitting with the end of the session.
Felipe Massa:
With his car repaired Felipe would come out but unlike his team-mate he
would be running on the soft tyre. His first lap would be a 1m:18.448 to be
second but he would drop to fourth. Felipe would improve with a 1m:17.977 to
be third. Felipe would drop to sixth right behind his team-mate, but Felipe
was on the harder tyre. Felipe would again improve with a 1m:16.926 but as
others went quicker this would only see him eleventh. Felipe would pit after
a short run of six laps. After a short stop Felipe would return on the
ultrasoft tyre. Felipe would finish with a 1m:15.703 to be fourth. This was
0.762 behind the quickest time set on the soft tyre. Felipe would also
improve with a 1m:15.513 remaining in fourth.
Felipe would pit after four laps. Felipe would drop to seventh then to
eleventh. With his return to the track Felipe was thirteenth. Felipe would
pit having complete sixteen laps on this set of tyres. Felipe would return
on a set of used soft tyres. Felipe would cut the final chicane joining the
many others. With ten minutes remaining Felipe had completed twelve laps on
the soft tyre. He would finish with twenty laps on the soft tyre as the
session ended.
