Team Summary:
After an encouraging final practice session the first period of qualifying would get underway for the Williams Martini team. The first period would see the ultra soft tyre the tyre of choice as the cars came out. Only Vettel would come out on the super soft tyre for his first run. After the first runs it would be Sainz quickest with a 1m:36.575. Ocon would move up to second followed by Magnussen. Perez would go quickest with a 1m:36.185 as Raikkonen also came out on the super soft tyre. The quicker drivers wee now setting times with Verstappen now quickest but Bottas and Vettel would move ahead. Bottas would set a 1m:34.177 as Raikkonen went third.

Verstappen would improve to now be third but Vettel and Raikkonen would push him down to fifth. Bottas would improve with a 1m:34.041 remaining quickest. Hamilton was second followed by Vettel and Raikkonen. Fifth would be Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Sainz, and Felipe. Palmer and Wehrlein would both spin right at the end of the period. Palmer would damage his car putting it into the barrier rear end first. After the first period both Williams cars would make it through into the second period with the pair tenth and thirteenth.

The second period would get underway with both Williams out very early. The pair would go first and second but as others went quicker they would drop down the order. Raikkonen would go quickest with a 1m:34.053 with Hulkenberg now second. Bottas would go quickest with a 1m:33.264 and Hamilton was now second followed by Raikkonen. Vettel was now third ahead of Raikkonen. After their first runs the Williams pair were seventh and tenth. Drivers would return to the track after their first runs coming out on new ultra soft tyres. Both Mercedes cars were still in their pits as the period came to a close. Raikkonen was able to move up to second to be ahead of Hamilton. The top ten was Bottas, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel, Felipe, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Perez and Ocon tenth.

The final period would commence and it would be Raikkonen who would set the quickest time with a 1m:33.253 followed by Bottas, Vettel, and Hamilton. Ricciardo was fifth followed by Verstappen, Felipe, Perez, Hulkenberg, and Ocon tenth. With four minutes remaining drivers started to return for their second runs. All ten cars were on the track as drivers worked on warming up their tyres. With the period coming to an end it would come down to their final runs. Raikkonen would not improve but Vettel would go ahead with a 1m:33.194 to be quickest. Bottas would remain third and Hamilton could not improve and finished fourth. Ricciardo was fifth and Felipe was able to move up to sixth. Seventh was Verstappen followed by Hulkenberg, Perez, and Ocon tenth. So with the end of qualifying the Williams drivers would finish in sixth and twelfth.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be the last driver to take to the track also using the ultra soft tyre. Felipe's first lap would see him set a 1m:36.142 to move up to sixth. He would drop to eighth ahead of both Force India cars. Felipe would improve with a 1m:35.828 to now be sixth behind Verstappen. But Hulkenberg would go quicker than Felipe seeing the Williams now seventh. He would drop to ninth to now be behind Ricciardo and Sainz. After a six lap run Felipe would pit as the period came to a close. With the end of the period Felipe would finish in tenth.

Felipe would come out first on a new set of ultra soft tyres for the second period. Felipe would start his first flying lap and would set a 1m:35.677 to go quickest. He would quickly drop to eighth but would improve with a 1m:35.432 to be seventh. Felipe would pit after a five lap run. He would follow Lance back out also on a new set of ultra soft tyres. Felipe would set a 1m:35.049 to now be fifth.

Felipe would be one of the last drivers to come out in the final period. His first lap would see him set a 1m:35.287 to be seventh. On his final run Felipe would find time setting a 1m:35.110 to move up to sixth. A great performance from Felipe.

Lance Stroll:
The first period would see Lance out early running on the ultra soft tyre. His first lap would see him set a 1m:37.473 to currently be fourth. He would drop to sixth as others went quicker. Lance would continue to drop down the times currently twelfth with nine minutes remaining. Lance would pit having completed five laps. In his pit he would drop to fourteenth as he returned to the track on a new set of ultra soft tyres. Lance was now fifteenth but his next lap would see him move up to eleventh with a 1m:36.279. This was three tenths off Felipe's time. He would finish the period in thirteenth.

Lance was also out early for the second period on a new set of ultra soft tyres. Lance would set a 1m:36.363 to be second if only temporarily. Lance's time was 0.686 behind Felipe's time. Lance would drop down the order but would find time to be tenth with a 1m:35.964. Lance would also pit after a five lap run. With four minutes remaining Lance was back out on a new set of ultra soft tyres. Lance would drop to eleventh behind Ocon then twelfth behind Sainz. Lance was not able to improve on his final run despite going quicker in the first two sectors but losing time in the final.
