The final practice for the 2017 British GP would see rain arrive hampering the run of Williams Martini driver Lance Stroll. Lance was not able to complete a super soft tyre run and as a result would finish the session in 20th. For team-mate Feliep Massa his session was much sucessful finishing in and encouraginbg 9th. With the session ending with a wet track there was uncertainty as to what the conditions would be like for qualifying so the Williams team wuld go into the session with a degree of uncertainty.
Williams
Martini British GP Saturday Practice
Team Summary:
With a few spots of rain falling the drivers would leave the pit lane for
the final practice session for the British Grand Prix. Both Williams drivers
would come out early as Hamilton set an early quickest time with a 1m:29.544
running on the soft tyre as both Ferrari's came out on the super soft tyre.
Vettel would go second as Bottas went quickest with a 1m:29.393 followed by
Hamilton and Vettel. Raikkonen would move ahead of Vettel as we had both
Williams cars back in their garages. With ten minutes of the session
completed Raikkonen would say that it was starting to rain.
Sainz was in fifth followed by the Sauber's. Bottas would improve with a
1m"28.827 as Vettel went second but Hamilton would move ahead with a
1m:29.069. Verstappen was now fifth while at the front the Mercedes pair
would swap quickest sector times. A 1m:28.827 from Bottas but Hamilton would
move ahead with a 1m:28.747. Ocon was now seventh followed by Vandoorne,
Perez and Alonso in tenth. The Williams drivers were just sixteenth and
twentieth with thirty six minutes remaining. The top four cars, Mercedes and
Ferrari, were all back out on new super soft tyres.
Hamilton would set a 1m:28.063 to remain quickest but by an increased
margin. Vettel would go second with a 1m:28.095 with Bottas now third
despite setting a 1m:28.214. Raikkonen was fourth with a 1m:28.732 followed
by Hulkenberg, Ricciardo and Verstappen. The track would start to clear as
the rain started to fall heavier. The track would empty with fifteen minutes
left in the session. A few drivers would come out on the intermediate tyre
for an exploratory run seeing what the conditions were like. This number
would increase as the session drew to a close. Ricciardo would spin on the
start-finish straight missing the pit wall. Everyone was out on the track
looking to use the opportunity to practice a race start in the wet
conditions.
With the end of the session the top ten was Hamilton, Vettel, Bottas,
Raikkonen, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Grosjean, Verstappen, Felipe and
Vandoorne. For the Williams team the session would see one car in ninth and
the other twentieth. But one car was now able to complete a super soft tyre
run due to the increasing rain. As for their true pace it was encouraging to
see Felipe finish in the top ten but no Lance will go into qualifying
without a super soft tyre run, assuming it is dry.
Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out for the final practice session running on a used
medium tyre. Felipe would also pit after a three lap run. Felipe would
follow Lance out also on new soft tyres. Felipe would also set a slow first
lap with a 1m:31.976. He would also slightly improve with a 1m:31.135 to
only be sixteenth. Felipe would also pit after a seven lpa run still
sixteenth. Just over twenty five minutes remaining and Felipe would return
for his run on new super soft tyres. Felipe was on a better lap and would
set a 1m:29.959 to move up to eighth. He would drop to ninth as Grosjean
moved up to seventh, splitting the Red Bull cars. Felipe would pit afar a
five lap run. Felipe would join the drivers out on the track for a run on
the intermediate tyre.
Lance Stroll:
Lance would also come out also running on a set of used medium tyres. Lance
would pit after a two lap run. His next run would see him come out on the
soft tyre with forty five minutes remaining. His first lap was a slow
1m:32.532. He would improve with a 1m:31.358 to be eighteenth. He would pit
after an eight lap run, currently twentieth. Lance was still in his pit but
was able to get out with twenty minutes remaining. He was on new super soft
tyres for this run. Lance would have to back off from his lap as the rain
started to increase. He would pit without been able to set an improved time.
Lance would also take the opportunity to come out on the inter mediate tyre.
