Team Summary:
On a sunny day the opening Friday practice session for the British GP would
get underway. Drivers would have started to come out using a variety of
tyres. This would include both Williams drivers using the soft tyre. The
first driver to return would be Sainz who was doing aero rake testing. Perez
who had tested positive for Covid19 was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg. First
lap time would be from Raikkonen with a 1m:32.661 running on the hard tyre.
Norris on the medium tyre would set a 1m:30.035. Verstappen was now second
followed by Raikkonen. Norris would improve with a 1m:29.439. Both Williams
drivers were back out as we saw both Alfa Romeo's spin. The Williams drivers
are currently ninth and 11th. Giovinazzi would return to his garage but on
the process of doing so would leave debris along the circuit seeing the
session red flagged as they needed to clear the track.
With the green flag with fifty minutes remaining drivers would start to
return including both Mercedes. On the soft tyre Stroll would go quickest
with a 1m:28.879 only to see Bottas go quicker with a 1m:28.869 with both on
the soft tyre. Both Williams drivers were back out again on the soft tyre.
Hamilton on the soft tyre would go quickest with a 1m:28.343 followed by
Bottas, Verstappen, Stroll, Ocon, Norris, Ricciardo, and Hulkenberg eighth.
The Williams drivers after their soft tyre runs were now 16th and 18th. This
would become 17th and 18th with just under forty minutes remaining. The
track was now quite empty as drivers assessed their first runs. the next
runs would commence with both Mercedes coming out doing a spilt tyre
evaluations on the hard and medium tyre. Verstappen would go quickest on the
soft tyre with a 1m:27.422. With twenty five minutes remaining the order was
Verstappen, Hamilton, Stroll, Albon, Leclerc, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo,
Ocon, and Norris tenth.
With ten minutes remaining the order was Verstappen still fastest from
Hamilton, Stroll, Albon, Leclerc, Bottas, Ocon, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg and
Kvyat tenth. The Williams drivers were 16th ans 19th. Both Williams drivers
would run in the final period of the session with the pair running a split
tyre evaluations with George on the medium tyre and Nicholas the hard. With
the session end the Williams drivers would remain in 17th and 19th with the
top ten remaining the same. A hard session to judge in terms of the
performances of the Williams pair but unfortunately both were having their
own issues.
George Russell:
George would also come out early also using the soft tyre pitting after a
single lap. George would follow his team-mate back out for his first timed
run. George would set a 1m:31.268 ruining on the soft tyre. He was currently
ninth. George would return again on the soft tyre. George would improve with
a 1m:31.220. He would improve again with a 1m:30.545 to be 16th. George
would return this time on the medium tyre. he would improve with a 1m:29.899
to be 14th. George would pit after a five lap run. George would say "Mate
she was proper wobbly around Maggots, Beckets and Stowe. George was back in
his pit currently 16th. After a short stop he was again out running still on
the medium tyre. George was running with a lot of flow viz. Would complain
about an issue when he would go over a little bump at Turn 16 Vale and the
front left would lift and not reattach to the circuit. Strange sort of
message. With the end of the session he would complete eight laps on the
medium tyre. George would finish the session in 17th. George would complete
a session that would see him on the radio to his engineer complaining about
various things from understeer at Turn six through to balance issues in Turn
seven and issues with a bump at Turn 16. Not the best of sessions.
Nichols Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out for Williams running on the soft tyre. He would
pit after a single install lap. With twenty five minutes of the session
completed Nicholas would return again on the soft tyre. Nicholas would set a
1m:31.906 to be 11ith. Nicholas had dropped to 17th and was back out on the
soft tyres. Nicholas was also able to improve with a 1m:31.478. Nicholas was
able to set a 1m:30.703 to be right behind his team-mate. Nicholas was back
out running on the hard tyre. He would pit after a two lap run. Wit ten
minutes remaining Nicholas was back out complaining about his DRS. Nicholas
would complete nine laps on the hard tyre as the session ended. |
