Team Summary:
he second Friday practice session for the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP would see
the cars run under lights. There would be a steady flow of cars coming out
with the majority on either the medium or hard tyre. All twenty cars were
running including both Williams cars. Times started to come in and with the
early runs it would be Norris quickest with a 1m:30.771 using the soft tyre.
Hamilton was second followed by Perez, Ocon, Alonso and Ricciardo.
Verstappen would go fastest with a 1m:30.104 while Ocon would move into
second followed now by Sainz. Leclerc was now second ahead of Ocon. The
Williams drivers were currently 15th and 18th. But this would change seeing
the cars now 13th and 18th. Hamilton was now third ahead of Ocon, Norris,
Ricciardo, Gasly and Bottas eighth. The Williams drivers weer now 16th and
18th with fifteen minutes completed in the session.
Verstappen had improved with a 1m:29.706 from Leclerc and Ocon all using the
medium tyre. Having both pitted the Williams drivers were now 17th and 18th
as we saw Bottas go quickest with a 1m:29.079 ahead of Verstappen and
Tsunoda. Sainz on the hard was fourth followed by Leclerc, Perez, Ricciardo,
Ocon, Alonso and Hamilton tenth. But Hamilton would go quickest with a
1m:29.018 from Bottas and Verstappen. The Williams drivers were currently
17th and 18th. Tsunoda was now fourth from Sainz and Leclerc. Alonso was now
fourth behind Verstappen who was third behind Hamilton and Bottas. But quite
a few drivers laps would be compromised by slower cars who were either
preparing for their lap of slowing down.
Twenty four minutes remaining and the Williams drivers were 17th and 19th.
On the soft tyre Gasly was now third ahead of Verstappen, Alonso, Ocon,
Tsunoda, Perez, Leclerc, and Sainz in tenth. With fifteen minutes remaining
drivers started to return for longer runs. But it would come to a stop as
the session was Red Flagged after Leclerc was to crash his Ferrari doing a
massive amount of damage to it. The session would not be restarted so the
order would be Hamilton, Bottas, Gasly, Verstappen, Alonso, Ocon, Sainz,
Tsunoda, Perez and Leclerc now tenth. For Williams they would finish the
session in 17th and 19th. This result really did confirm that the team was
going to find the going difficult. It will all come down to whether they can turn things around
overnight as find that extra pace to lift them up the order.
George Russell:
George would commence his second session but was now on the hard tyre.
George would set a slow 1m:39.732 on his first timed lap. He would improve
with a 1m:32.167 to be 12th. He would drop down to 18th but was able to set
a 1m:31.447 to be 17th. This would become 18th as others went quicker. He
would pit after a six lap run shortly returning this time on the soft tyre.
He would be on his radio complaining about issues with his BBW system saying
his brake peddle went to the floor. He would set a 1m:30.894 but this was
only good enough for 17th. A 1m:30.506 would see George now 14th. He would
drop to 17th and after a seven lap run would pit. He would have his car
checked for his BBW issue but it was all about the software. He would
complete an eight lap run on the hard tyre stopping with the Red Flag.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be on the medium tyre for this second practice session. He
would set a 1m:32.614 to be 12th dropping to 13th. He would drop to 18th but
a 1m:31.039 would see Nicholas now 13th. This would become 14th. But he
would drop to 17th as he pitted after a seven lap run on the medium tyre. He
would return with twenty minutes gone in the session this time on the soft
tyre. But would fail to find any extra pace currently 19th. He would
complete his soft tyre run and would pit returning again on the medium tyre
with fifteen minutes of the session remaining. He would complete a seven lap
run prior to pitting with the Red Flag. |
