Team Summary:
On a dry track the final practice session for the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand
Prix would get underway with Stroll out first using the medium tyre. Other
drivers were out running with the majority on the medium tyre. Botta's car
was still on its stands looking nowhere near ready to run. Norris, Gasly,
Perez and Verstappen would come out on the soft as it was reported that
there was an issue with Ricciardo's car. A 1m24.826 from Zhou on the medium
as Leclerc came out on the same tyre. Quite a few drivers would pit without
setting a time as Norris set a 1m:23.821 to be quickest. But Hamilton would
set a 1m:21.880 on the medium tyre as the first Williams would be out
running.
Quickly Gasly would move ahead with a 1m:21.602 only to be passed by Perez,
1m:20.447, with Verstappen second. A Williams was fourth dropping to fifth
behind the AlphaTauri pair. The Williams would move into second behind an
improved Perez who had set a 1m:19.815. Verstappen was now second again.
Gasly was fourth followed but this would change as Tsunoda went third seeing
the Williams now fourth. But Hamilton was now second also using the soft
tyre. With one Williams now 10th with a 1m:22.277 but was 2.4s off the
quickest time. The other was fifth but only 0.7 behind the quickest time.
It was reported that Norris also had an issue seeing both McLaren's in their
garages. On the soft tyre Russell would go quickest with a 1m:19.457 from
Perez and Hamilton. With thirty minutes completed the order was Russell,
Perez, Hamilton, Verstappen, Tsunoda, Alex, Gasly, Zhou, Vettel and Stroll.
The other Williams of Nicholas was now 13th. This would change with the pair
now 10th and 15th. Leclerc on the soft was now second ahead of Perez. Alonso
was now fifth from Sainz, Verstappen, Tsunoda, Zhou and Alex. Perez would
improve to again be second.
Five minutes remaining and the session was very much drivers completing
longer runs. With the end of the session both Williams drivers would return
to the track with the pair currently 11th and 17th in order to complete
practice starts. The order would finish with Russell remaining quickest from
Perez, Leclerc, Hamilton, Alonso, Sainz, Verstappen, Tsunoda, Gasly and Zhou
tenth. Certainly an improvement from both Williams drivers compared to their
Friday performances. Given their evaluations of both the soft and medium
tyres it will be interesting to see which tyre they start the Sprint on.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be the first Williams driver out running using the soft tyre. A
1m:21.643 from Alex would see him fourth. On the soft Alex would set a 1m:
20.591 to be second behind an improved Perez. This was 0.7 behind the Red
Bull as he dropped to third. This would become sixth as Alex pitted after a
long 12 lap run on the soft. Alex would return for a medium tyre run with
just over twenty minutes remaining. As mores oft tyre times were set Alex
would drop to tenth. Alex had completed eleven laps on the medium tyre with
ten minutes remaining in the session. He would complete eighteen laps and
then pitted now in eleventh.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would come out for his first run using the soft tyre with just over
ten minutes completed. Nicholas would set a 1m:23.602 to be 12th. He would
improve with a 1m:22.501 to be 11th. A 1m:22.277 would see Nicholas now
tenth. Nicholas would drop to 11th and would pit after a seven lap run. he
would return this time on the medium tyre having dropped to 14th. He had
improved his time with a 1m:22.136. A 1m:21.873 would see Nicholas improve
up to 12th. This would become 13th as his continued his longer run. Ten laps
into his medium run Nicholas was now 11th with a 1m:21.655. This would
become 14th even with a 1m:21.263, then 16th. He was continuing on a very
long run on the medium tyre now currently having completed eighteen laps.
One lap later and Nicholas would pit now 17th.
