Team Summary:
The final Saturday practice session for the 2022 Miami Grand Prix would get
underway with drivers taking to the track with a rear mix of tyres from hard
through to soft being used. On the medium tyre Verstappen would set a
1m:34.037 followed by Perez and Bottas. The Ferrari's were fourth and fifth
with Leclerc quickest. But as more drivers came out the hard tyre became the
main tyre being assessed. Leclerc would go quickest with a time of 1m:32.250
followed by Verstappen. Both Mercedes would be running using the medium
tyre. Both Haas cars were running on the soft tyre and Schumacher would go
third.
As the times got quicker Verstappen was again fastest with a 1m:31.355
followed by Leclerc and Bottas. Russell was now third behind Leclerc while
for Williams neither of their cars had started their session. Fifteen
minutes into the session and it would be Red Flagged when Ocon would spin
and crash into the barrier at the same location as Sainz the say before.
With forty minutes remaining Verstappen was quickest from Leclerc,
Schumacher, Russell, Sainz, Hamilton, Bottas, Gasly, Perez and Tsunoda in
tenth. Neither Williams driver had yet to set a time.
With the restart both Williams cars would start their first runs using the
soft tyre. Their first runs would see them currently 11th and 17th as we had
Leclerc and Sainz second and third. Bottas would put himself back up to
third. Gasly was now fourth followed by Russell and Hamilton. Both Williams
drivers would pit but would return for a second soft tyre run. Perez would
go quickest with a 1m:30.699 to be ahead of Leclerc and Verstappen. The
Williams pair were 16th and 18th and with their second runs they would be
sixth and 19th.
As the session came to an end Perez would be quickest with a 1m:30.304
followed by Verstappen, Leclerc, Vettel, Sainz, Alonso, Alex, Norris,
Stroll, and Tsunoda tenth. But Leclerc would move into second as the session
ended and Schumacher was up to sixth seeing the top ten Perez, Leclerc,
Verstappen, Alonso, Vettel, Schumacher, Sainz, Magnussen, Alex, and Norris
tenth. Another very encouraging performance from Alex to finish in ninth but
still a worry that Nicholas was again slowest and yet to find any sort of
confidence with his car.
Alex Albon:
Alex would also take to the track using the soft tyre. Alex would set a
1m:33.587 to be 11th. This would become 12th as he continued his run on the
soft tyre. He would pit after a seven lap run. In the pits he would
drop to 15th to be two places a ahead of his team-mate. He would return for
a second soft tyre run and despite a 1m:33.166 would only be 16th. But a
fantastic 1m:31.756 from Alex would see him fourth dropping to seventh. He
would finish the session in ninth another great performance.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would start his session as the Red Flag period come to an end. He
was straight onto the soft tyre. His first time was a 1m:35.015 to be 14th.
He would drop to 17th and would pit after a four lap run. But he would
quickly return now 18th. But his next flying lap would see him set a
1m:34.917 to remain slowest. But Nicholas would set a 1m:33.814 to be 17th
pitting after a four lap run. Nicholas would return again on the soft tyre
and would set a 1m:32.978 to be 16th and one place ahead of team-mate Alex.
He would improve with a 1m:32.376 but would remain slowest while his
team-mate was inside the top ten. Nicholas would pit after a seven lap run
remaining slowest.
