Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2022 Spanish GP would see the
return of Alex Albon for Williams Racing, joining Nicholas Latifi. With the
start of the session there was a flow of drivers coming out including both
Williams. As times were set we would have Verstappen on the medium quickest
with a time of 1m:20.932 followed by Sainz, Hamilton and Russell. Leclerc
would move into third while the Williams pair were 13th and 16th. Bottas was
now sixth followed by Perez, Alonso, Gasly and Vettel tenth. The Williams
pair continued to fall down the order now 17th and 19th. Bottas had stopped
out on the track with an issue with his car.
With forty minutes remaining Vettel would go quickest with a 1m:20.703
followed by Verstappen, Sainz, Leclerc and Hamilton. The Williams drivers
were 18th and 20th. Verstappen would go quickest with a 1m:20.006 followed
by Vettel and Perez. There were just a few cars running including both
Williams on the soft tyre. Leclerc would go quickest with a 1m:19.670 now
followed by Sainz, Verstappen, Alonso, Perez, Vettel, Ocon, Gasly, Magnussen
and Stroll. But Russell would move into second as more soft tyre runs were
completed. Schumacher was now ninth with twenty five minutes remaining in
the session while we would see Hamilton third.
With fifteen minutes remaining the track was very busy with drivers using
all three tyre types for their longer runs. The session would come to a
close with Leclerc remaining fastest from Russell, Hamilton, Sainz,
Verstappen, Alonso, Perez, Vettel, Ocon, and Schumacher tenth. Drivers would
be allowed to again complete practice starts on the grid. AS for the
Williams pair they would remain in 18th and 19th which is far from the most
encouraging of performances.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be fist out in the session running on the medium tyre. He would
set a 1m:24.368 to be briefly quickest. He would drop to 10th. This would
become 13th even with a 1m:24.295. He would drop to 17th. He was on a longer
run on the medium tyre and would set a 1m:23.543 to be 16th dropping to
17th. Alex would pit after a ten lap run. Alex would return for a soft tyre
and would set a 1m:22.319 to be 14th. He would pit after a six lap run
currently 17th. Alex would report that he ran wide at Turn nine and asked
the team to check his floor. He would return on a used set of medium tyres.
He would complete a thirteen lap run on these tyres.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would take to the track running on the hard. Nicholas would set a
1m:26.178 to currently be 11th. This would become 17th even with a
1m:24.954. He would pit after a six lap run on the hard tyre now 19th. He
would drop to be 20th and would return for a soft tyre run. He would improve
with a 1m:23.285 to be 17th. He would drop to 18th and was 0.966 behind his
team-mate. A 1m:23.197 would see Nicholas down in 19th pitting after a five
lap run. He would return on a used set of soft tyres. Latifi would comment
to his engineer "Really struggling with overall grip. Balance is quite all
over the place. What do you guys see places to improve" He would pit after a
twelve lap run. |
