Team Summary:
With the start of the opening Friday practice session for the 2022 Italian
Grand Prix we would see Nyck de Vries running in the Aston Martin. He would
be joined by a flow of other drivers with the hard tyre been the main tyre
of choice. But both Haas cars were on the soft tyre while the Williams
drivers were the amongst the last to come out. Ocon was quickest with a
1m:26.690 but Perez would move ahead with a 1m:26.238. Verstappen was now
quickest with a time of 1m:25.230 followed by Perez. But this would change
as Ocon was second followed by Alonso, Stroll, Ricciardo, Sainz and
Magnussen. The first of the Williams was in seventh dropping to tenth.
Perez was now quickest with a time of 1m:25.026 followed by Verstappen and
Ricciardo. But Alonso would move to the top of the times only to see
Verstappen move ahead with a 1m:23.449. Ocon was second followed by Alonso,
Perez, Alex, Leclerc, Bottas and Ricciardo eighth. The second Williams was
15th. Verstappen would improve with a 1m:22.853 followed by Alonso, Ocon,
Alex, Gasly, Perez, Leclerc, Tsunoda, Bottas and Stroll tenth. The second
Williams of Nicholas was now 14th with twenty minutes of the session
completed.
On the soft tyre Tsunoda would improve to be second with just the AlphaTauri
cars running. Gasly was now fifth with the Williams pair now sixth and 14th.
Both AlphaTauri cars would pit but we would see others return with most on
the soft tyre including both Williams as Leclerc went quickest on the soft
tyre with a 1m:22.410 while we had a Williams third after its soft tyre run.
Alonso was now third followed by Ricciardo and a Williams fifth. Bottas was
now fourth ahead of Ricciardo and Alex. Russell was able to move up to third
behind Verstappen. Alonso was now fourth followed by Ocon, Bottas, Hamilton,
Ricciardo, Alex, and Gasly tenth.
Twenty minutes remaining Sainz was able to move into second and Hamilton
fourth. Verstappen was now fifth ahead of Ocon, Alonso, Tsunoda, Bottas and
Ricciardo tenth. The Williams pair were now 11th and 20th. Five minutes
remaining and we would have de Vries go off onto the gravel as we had the
whole field running with the majority on the soft tyre. The Williams pair
were on a split tyre evaluations as the session came to an end. Leclerc
would remain quickest from Sainz, Russell, Hamilton, Verstappen, Ocon,
Alonso, Tsunoda, Bottas and Ricciardo tenth. The Williams pair would remain
in 11th and 20th as the drivers were able to complete practice starts from
the grid.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be the first of the Williams drivers running on the medium and
his first lap was a 1m:26.043 to be seventh. This would become tenth but
with a 1m:24.882 Alex was now second dropping to fifth but with a 1m:24.323
he was again third. He would drop to be fourth and would pit after an eight
lap run. After a short stop he would return on the soft tyre. He would set a
1m:23.529 to be third. Alex would comment that he felt the track was
starting to grip up. Alex would drop to be fifth then ninth as he pitted
after a six lap run. This would become 11th with ten minutes remaining. Alex
would return using the medium tyre again. He would complete nine laps on the
medium tyre ending his session completing a practice start.
Nicholas Latifi:
With five minutes of the session completed Nicholas would come out using the
hard tyre. Nicholas would set a 1m:29.016 to be 18th and slowest. But
Nicholas would improve to be 15th with a 1m:26.136. He would drop to 16th
but with a 1m:25.734 he was now 12th dropping to 13th. Nicholas would pit
after a seven lap run. Nicholas would return for a run on the soft tyre.
Nicholas would set a 1m:25.734 but remained down the order in 17th. This
would become 18th but with a 1m:24.941 he would return to 17th. He would pit
after a seven lap run dropping to 20th. He would return this time using the
hard tyre again. Nicholas would c0omplete ten laps on the hard having
completed a practice start prior to pitting. |
