| Barcelona Test 21:02:2003 Final Day | |
| The final
day of testing for the BMW WilliamsF1 team would see Ralf and Juan Pablo
finish the day first and second, but there were only four cars running on
the day. The day would see the weather improve after several days of rain,
allowing the WilliamsF1 drivers to set some quick times. Ralf would set a best lap time of 1m:17.962, completing eighty one laps in total. His day would see him focus on testing Michelin tyres and on the set-up of the new FW25. Ralf would also set the top speed of the day with a speed of 302.94 km/h. For Juan Pablo he would continue the tests on the BMW P83 engine, completing longer runs of up to twenty five laps. He would complete eighty two laps overall, with a best lap time of 1m:18.283 Overall the four days of testing, despite the poor weather, would see the team improve their understanding of the new FW25.. WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer, Sam Michael, commented on the weeks testing: "We covered a lot of ground during the test, and although it was wet for most of it, we still learnt a lot about the new car. Ralf and Juan were driving an FW25 and Marc spent two days tyre testing with an FW24. The team now makes it way to the Jerez track with one FW25chassis for Juan and Ralf, while Marc will be testing at Imola with an FW24 to progress a tyre programme with Michelin." BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen added: This was a very positive test from BMW’s perspective and we have covered a lot of mileage without any engine problems. We are pleased the progression of our reliability in particular. The mixed weather conditions have led to some progress on the traction control, and some new BMW electronic parts have been tested successfully. The BMW WilliamsF1 Team will conduct further testing with another test at the Jerez circuit for four days, 25th –28th February, and also at Imola for three days, 25th- 27th February. |
