WilliamsF1 driver Ralf Schumacher has added to the comments already made by
Frank Williams and Patrick Head to admit that the new FW25 is , at this
time, not good enough to challenge for race victories.
After
several weeks of testing Ralf is less than confident over his chances in
Australia. Ralf said: "We've worked like mad and everyone knows that we have
a huge amount to do. At the moment the new car is as quick as the old one,
perhaps a tad faster, but that is not good enough.
"We will not be also-rans in Australia, but we might as well forget any
thoughts of winning the first couple of races. We lack to much to aim for a
win."
For Ralf this lack of pace has been even more frustrating when he compares
his performances to that of his brother Michael. Ralf added: "Michael gets
in the car, drives 80 laps just like that and does not have the slightest
problem Ferrari again is driving in a world of its own. I do not feel depressed, rather sobered. You have plans and then you
realise they will not materialise yet. But this is also a motivation."
As for Ralf's future with the WilliamsF1 team now that rumours have started
saying that he will be with Toyota in 2004 Ralf added: "I have a contract
for two more years at BMW-Williams and I like it here.
"It might well be that I will drive for another team in 2005, but it is a
little bit early to talk about that. Toyota is not a subject for me. It all
depends if Williams want me beyond 2004. Or if I want to stay there. But
that has no priority now, the priority is to improve the car." |
