Silverstone Test 22:04:2003 Day One of Three

Tuesday would see the BMW WilliamsF1 team back testing this time at the Silverstone circuit. Present were Juan Pablo Montoya and test driver Marc Gene. The WilliamsF1 team was the only team present at the circuit.

Marc GeneThe team was presented with a chilly but dry day, with the team concentrating on reliability testing and setup work.

Juan Pablo Montoya would finish the day with the fastest time, despite suffering a problem with his FW25 that saw his car stopping on track. He would set a fastest time of 1m:21.170, after completing sixty five laps. Marc would complete forty five laps with a fastest time of 1m:22.697. Rubens Barrichello set last year's fastest lap time at the race in Silverstone at 1:23.083 minutes.

Juan Pablo focused on the car set-up for the races in Spain and England. Marc focused on a more general test of the set-up, including tests in the fields of aerodynamics, balance and weight shifting. Both men will continue testing at the British track tomorrow.

WilliamsF1 Test team Manager Tim Newton commented on the days testing: “Today was our first day of testing at Silverstone this season so the team concentrated on general set-up work and reliability on both the FW25-01 and FW25-02. It was a useful day for Juan Pablo and Marc, with each driver completing 65 and 45 laps respectively under temperate weather conditions. Tomorrow we will be focusing on similar objectives combined with a strong emphasis on tyre development.“
