Making Progress

Reports regarding the on-going negotiations between BMW and the WilliamsF1 team indicate that the parties are "making progress" towards a resolution to extend the contract

BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen commented on the negotiations by saying that the "big issues" had been resolved but now it was a case of moving forward "and now we're going into detail."

The discussions between the two parties have been taking place for sometime and have been the centre of much discussion as to what the alternatives are for BMW. There has been stories which point towards BMW's desire to have a far greater say in the operation of the WilliamsF1 team.

As for the delay in producing a new contract Dr Theissen added: "It requires more discussions than we originally expected.

"To us it is very important to achieve the optimum setup. It is not so important to achieve this a few weeks earlier or later.

"We are trying to come to a joint view of how the future team should be structured, organised and run. Both of us want to do it in a way that we can win the championship."
